What school bags are your year 7 girls getting?

My DD is starting year 7 in September and we can't decide on a school bag. I ideally want her to get a backpack but she insists that all of the girls get a handbag style bag these days from the likes of River Island.

I don't want her feeling the odd one out but I'm also trying to think what's best practically.

All backpacks here. Far more practical for walking or cycling to school.

The agreement I reached with DD was that she could get the RI type bag, but if it's wasn't big enough for days when she needed extra kit, or it ended up not being suitable, she used a backpack (from the perfectly good selection she already has - we wouldn't be buying her another one.)

The bigger the better with the amount of stuff they need. Definitely rucksack.

My daughter has got a plain black backpack. She's going to add a couple of "Stranger things" keyrings to it.

Plain black Nike backpack they don’t have lockers so on PE days it’s really heavy. Depends on the school though, my eldest had a A4 sized handbag one by yr8 to fit in but she was at different school.

I’m so glad in ours the school branded rucksacks are compulsory for Y7 & Y8, at least it’s one less thing to worry about!

DD had a plain black, unbranded rucksack in y7. She still has it in y10.

Ds is going to high school with a rucksack too. He had it in y6. I don't see any need to change it.
