Completely blinded by headlights

I'll ask the opticians anyway, but hoping that maybe someone has gone through the same.

I have very high astigmatism (about 6 diopters in both eyes). Driving at night is hard but still doable, however when completely dark and a car is heading my way I go blind for a nanosecond, but would say that everything goes dark.

Is this normal?

The antiglare? Does it work? I always thought it was more about light reflections
