Where can I buy a double bed put together on site due to narrow staircase?

Warren Evans used to do it so they just bought the stuff up as plants then screwed it all together. But they went bust. Anyone know any other places that do this? I don’t think a ready made double divan would fit up the stairs (we have the mattress up there already). In north london

M&S? They certainly used to offer an assembly service.

viques · 17/08/2023 15:31

John Lewis are pretty good at delivery stuff, I haven’t bought a bed from them but they were very good at getting a new mattress up narrow stair.

TeddyOBear · 17/08/2023 15:31

Dreams did ours for us back in April, really good service too.

PriamFarrl · 17/08/2023 15:34

We bought one from a local company. It’s worth looking into local independents.

flyingant · 17/08/2023 15:35

IKEA? (This seems too obvious, so I assume there's a reason you don't want to use them) 😁

Peony654 · 17/08/2023 15:36

We had a frame from DFS which came in pieces and they put it together

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2023 15:37

M&S - we haven't got a bed from them, but have got a wardrobe and a chest of drawers and they're really lovely.

Neptune? Well made classic furniture so lasts a lifetime but it’s not cheap.

shoofly · 17/08/2023 15:44

Anyone who sells a bed frame surely? Dreams, Harvey Norman, Next, M&S IKEA.
Not remotely DIY or handy but a bed frame is easy to put together and I imagine most of the companies who deliver will offer an assembly service for a fee

Most divans come in two parts so they can get them upstairs if that’s what you mean? Or any bed frame that comes self assembly and get a handyman / woman to put the frame together if you don’t want to do it?

lemonyellows · 17/08/2023 16:21

You can get divans in 4 parts for those with narrow stairs etc

KnickerlessParsons · 17/08/2023 16:42

A local handyman would come and put it together for you.

MadKittenWoman · 17/08/2023 16:50

Definitely Ikea. You can also buy the mattresses rolled up.

mindutopia · 17/08/2023 16:51

I can't remember where we got our bed now, but it was one of the top few that came up when I googled 'wooden super king bed.' I think nearly all beds you order online will come unassembled now, unless you are ordering something quite high spec. You can assemble yourself or hire in someone to do it.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 17/08/2023 16:52

Literally anywhere you buy from will be flat pack and if they don’t assemble contact a local handy man.

andymary · 17/08/2023 17:27

There are lots of divan bed bases here that come in two or four pieces for easy maneuvering:

Warren Evans are doing it again. We had a bed from them last October.

WaitingfortheTardis · 17/08/2023 17:32

Divans even in two pieces wouldn't get up our stairs. I think you need to go for a bed with a proper frame, or an ottoman style that gets built in situe. I think ours was from Dreams.

DiscoBeat · 17/08/2023 17:35

We have a very narrow staircase up to the children's bedrooms and we always buy furniture flat packed and assemble it up there ourselves. We just upgraded our teen to a double bed and the pieces went up just fine, assembly was pretty straightforward. If you haven't got one already I'd invest in an electric screwdriver rather than assembly costs!

Muji. Good quality, thoughtfully designed. Easy to assemble and dissemble. No tools needed - https://www.muji.eu/uk/furniture/furniture-bedroom-furniture/furniture-beds/

Most wooden frame beds come in packs to be assembled. Mattresses may be rolled.

AuntieMarys · 17/08/2023 18:36

Get Laid beds

cocksstrideintheevening · 17/08/2023 19:53

Divans do not go up narrow staircases! Lesson learnt the hard way. We have a frame from I think the now defunct Pier and a rolled mattress.

Oldraver · 17/08/2023 20:02

I would say its very rare to get any bed that comes complete. Divans usually come in two pieces (or four as some previous posters have said) and bed frames come as self assembl.y
