Sad news to hear, Michael Parkinson has died. RIP.

I've just saw that then on my news feed. RIP Parky.

TheTecknician · 17/08/2023 10:29

Just seen that too. Another of those personalities whom we seem to expect to be here forever.

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/08/2023 10:32

RIP Michael.

LlynTegid · 17/08/2023 10:34

May he rest in peace. Thoughts for his family as they mourn.

RabbitsRock · 17/08/2023 10:35

Sad news but what a life he had. All those people that he got to interview.

FloofCloud · 17/08/2023 10:36

😔 very sad but he had a long life living til 88, so that's at least something!
Hopefully we will see some of his Parky interviews on telly again!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 17/08/2023 10:45

I loved his interviewing style. He didn't shy away from asking difficult questions and he didn't make it all about him, but at the same time he put people at ease. True talent. If you can find his interview with George Michael online, it's well worth watching. As are many of the others.

AnyFucker · 17/08/2023 10:48

That’s a shame. He seemed a decent sort and a very talented broadcaster

tara66 · 17/08/2023 11:04

RIP but I did not like a lot of his interviews especially with women.

The one with Meg Ryan was cringeworthy 😩

Housewife2010 · 17/08/2023 11:09

I thought he was a fantastic interviewer and I loved his show.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/08/2023 11:27

RIP Parky.

TheTecknician · 17/08/2023 11:27

I gather his first interviewee in 1971 was Orson Welles. Apparently the great man called in to MP's dressing room before transmission and chanced upon the list of questions that had been prepared. OW studied the list for a moment, dropped it in the bin and said to MP, "Michael, let's just talk."😀

LookItsMeAgain · 17/08/2023 13:02

I loved the intro music for his show.
He was very watchable but I would agree that his interviewing style when he was chatting with a woman was very dated, and he really could have (and should have) been better but it was of its time (not trying to excuse it but perhaps explain)

ShirleyPhallus · 17/08/2023 13:04

He was great.

its such a dumb thing to say but he looked the same for absolutely years that to see him looking so frail earlier this year was a surprise

Yep

Belladonna56 · 17/08/2023 13:05

RIP Michael. He was great.

Jackienory · 17/08/2023 13:06

He looked increasingly frail.

He looked increasingly frail.

That tends to happen by the time someone is in their late 80s. Hmm

We always watched Parkinson on Saturday nights. There's nobody with that reach now. Rest in peace.

BoogLoaf · 17/08/2023 13:15

That's such a shame

Who remembers the famous interview with Emu, he was a good sport

TheTecknician · 17/08/2023 14:00

I remember he had Michael Aspel as a guest in more recent years but it was a ruse to bring This Is Your Life to musical director Laurie Holloway. Nicely done.

BIossomtoes · 17/08/2023 14:02

He was so proud of being a Yorkshire man.

I was just thinking of the Emu interview and wondering if anyone else remembered it. I was upstairs in bed (should probably have been asleep as I was only little) and could hear my dad roaring with laughter at it.

There is an old interview with a young Helen Mirren where he talks about "her assets, " it was awful she really got stuck into him.

This is one interview nearly 50 years ago when times were different and MP was in the early years of his interviewing career. Apart from Helen Mirren and very possibly the infamous Meg Ryan one , what other examples are there?
