OK. I accept maybe out of date as let my hair get very long and usually get trimmed at our local barbers with my teenage boys.
Barbers been very busy and only one guy will do my hair so went to hairdressers down the road. Old fashioned looking with older ladies having perms when made an appointment. No price list obvious and not on line either. Foolishly didn't ask.
Had 5 inches cut off to just below shoulders and my fringe trimmed. Took about 15 minutes. Gulped when charged 30 pounds. (More than twice price of the barbers). Is this normal? I am in the Southeast but not posh seeming hairdressers.
Happy with haircut... My hair grows fast like weeds...

I wouldn’t class my hair as long, maybe almost to my shoulders but pay £12 for a dry cut in south Wales.

DinkyDaisy · 16/08/2023 11:08

Would having 5 inches cut off make it more expensive? As a quick dry cut feel ripped off but prepared to be told this is the normal price...
Just a bit shocked...

12 pounds more like it!
Will shop around before next cut or go back to barbers!

FrogFairy where do you go for your cut, hairdressers or barbers.

I've been wondering about the cost of hair trims. My hairdresser charges £20, but last time it was £24 for 2" off the bottom, no fringe. My old hairdresser is cheaper, but she's go miserable you come out on a downer.

EverythingHurtsAndImHungry · 16/08/2023 13:18

Last time I had my long hair trimmed, I went to the hairdressers house, sat on a dining chair (well, actually stood for most of the cut as my hair was so long), and had about 2 inches cut off. Took about 20 minutes, and cost £25!

DinkyDaisy · 16/08/2023 14:59

Not alone then! 30 pounds just seemed a lot for a 15. Minute dry haircut...

@ifonly4 I go to a hairdresser. My mum has the same length hair but has layers which I assume is more complicated but she charges her the same.

TheCyclingGorilla · 16/08/2023 15:26

I don't go to the hairdressers often but my last wet cut (no washing or drying) was £40.

CointreauVersial · 16/08/2023 15:28

I have a wet cut (south east) and pay £25.

NillyNoMates · 16/08/2023 15:28

I pay £8 for a dry cut.

winteriscoming2022 · 16/08/2023 15:51

I have either a wet cut or go with my hair wet
Local hairdresser charges around £14, friend of a friend charges £20 in her kitchen. I prefer friend of a friend so happy to pay. It takes about 5 minutes

DinkyDaisy · 16/08/2023 16:16

A variety of prices...
I don't get my hair cut often (deal badly with own fringe in between cuts) but don't like to be ripped off.

Jesus where are all these cheap hairdressers hiding? Literally they won't pick up a pair of scissors in my SE town for less than £70.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/08/2023 18:48

It's not really how much is cut off in my experience. A cut is a cut and sometimes it takes longer and sometimes not so long. That's very cheap where I live, I pay £49 for a cut and blow-dry, they don't do wet cuts only as they cut a lot when it's dried too.

Moral of the story is to ask first,I can't imagine just agreeing to a hair cut without checking the price first.

DinkyDaisy · 16/08/2023 18:51

I know. I'm an idiot! Having had cheaper haircuts at local barbers and not having had hair cut at hairdressers for a while thought would be 20 pounds at the most for a simple, dry trim of long hair.
If you saw the salon you would not expect high prices. More fool me!

Cheapest dry cut near me is 12 quid. I stopped going after covid though as it didn't seem very clean!

Cut and blow dry at local nice salon £30, which i think is fair.
