Spending money on myself

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 16/08/2023 09:54

My lovely fil has sent £500 to spend, the stipulation is that I spend it on myself not for household or family stuff (usually we spend on our disabled son for things he needs etc) or family days out and I have no fucking clue what to do. I don't do make up/hair/ nails etc don't need tech, my long term hobby doesn't require any thing and my other hobby is crocheting. I thought about a new pair of docs but there's nothing I like at the moment and I don't want to squander it, what do I do?

Watch or handbag? I'd buy one special item rather than lots of smaller spends.

Shinyandnew1 · 16/08/2023 10:03

Jewellery
bag
coat
nice furniture

SallySunrise · 16/08/2023 10:04

Monthly massage for a while?

SootspriteSearcher · 16/08/2023 10:13

I would keep hold of it in a separate account until there is something you really want or need.

Do you have a decent winter coat, boots, dressing gown/oodie, slippers. Do you need new bras/underwear? These cost a fortune but so nice when you get measured up and it does make such a difference when wearing the right size.

Do you read? How about a kindle loaded up with some books.

I know you said not household but is there anything you would like for the house that would be a treat to you? I bought a milk frother and lots of coffee syrups as I love a latte and hot chocolates.

How about a weekend/night away with friends or DH?

Do you like theatre/gigs/festivals? Could you book tickets for you and DH or with a friend?

I don't use a handbag I've a backpack, and already have an Apple Watch which goes with my phone ( which I got to link with my hearing aids 😂)

I d like to get something that I will use and keep or it will seem like a waste I have covered a DM backpack for a while?
Im not really a jewellery person aside from my wedding ring
I like crafty things

A new craft desk with all the little draws and jars for all your craft stuff what do you make? Sewing machine if you sow?

cero · 16/08/2023 10:18

I love the idea of a monthly massage! Where do you craft? Is £500 enough to kit out a spare room or a nook somewhere 9under the stairs?) to make a creation station?

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2023 10:24

Just looked, a DM backpack and some boots will take a good chunk of the money (since when did a pair of Docs cost £200 Shock)and sounds like would be really special to you.

Then I'd probably buy a couple of bottles of artisan gin, books and posh chocolates.

TheChosenTwo · 16/08/2023 10:31

Just keep hold of it if you can’t think of anything at the moment.
I’d probably use it to put towards a city break somewhere.

Farmageddon · 16/08/2023 10:31

What about a nice experience - a treatment or massage, or a weekend in London to see a west end show. Or a subscription to something you enjoy.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 16/08/2023 10:36

Ooh I do love camping so if there are any cool camping gadgets that anyone know of?

How about booking a crochet day out, learning a new technique? I'm not sure where you live, but something like this.....

Ah what a lovely fil you have Smile.
Save it until you find that treat that you want. I do like the idea of experiences instead of things though (if you don't need anything).

Cockle1234 · 16/08/2023 10:44

The crochet society advent calendar will be out soon. Or you could get some expensive beautiful yarn and make yourself something really treasured

Have you got a descent matress we invested in a really good self inflating matress not too long ago which is amazing

An event shelter ( somewhere to hide out in the rain)

Some very comfy chairs

A good camping bbq
