National insurance card

My DD is starting a new job. I have her NI number but can't find her card anywhere. Is the number all that she will need or does she also need a card? If it is only the number that she needs, do I even need to send off for a new card?

I don't remember ever needing my card at any point in the near 30 years I've had it. She will just need the number.

You don’t need a card, just the number.

She can set up an HMRC account quite quickly and that has proof of NI on a tab in the app.

My younger DC never got a card (just letter) and AFAIK they’ve only ever been asked for the number

(Why do I even know that? Because they can never remember the number and rely on their dear old mum who made a note of it when it arrived. And if they’d ever needed more than the number, I’m sure that would have been the next thing they asked for!)

They no longer issue cards as you reach 16yrs old, you just get a letter with your NI number on it.

I don't think my youngest Dd (26) got a card just a letter with a pull off tab number underneath. You don't need to show the card just the number.

They don't have cards anymore

Its all a scam any way. When I got my card, I knew it was proof I had a right to work, because I was paying tax. Now the card is proof of a right to pay tax, but not to work. 😵‍💫

I lost my card some time in my 20's. I've had numerous jobs since then and it's never been a problem.

I just memorised mine. I've not seen my card in decades I'm assuming it's "somewhere "
