Flying in 6 hours -terrified

linksonvabe · 16/08/2023 07:02

I don't like flying at all but push myself to do it
Going on holiday to France today so it's a short flight but still scared
Not of crashing just of taking off and landing and feeling dizzy on board (I have vertigo )
I must have only got 4-5 hours sleep as I woke up terrified and couldn't get back to sleep.
Is anyone else the same of any reassuring words ?

Thank you. I think I know this would logically be true. Still don't trust easyJet though 😂 Flying shouldn't be orange and casual. Its a serious busines!

Haha yes I agree! I'm not a brilliant flyer myself and whenever I catch myself thinking "this is just like being on a bus or a train" my brain reminds me of the 36000 feet of empty space below me Shock

Sorry OP - hope the G&T helped

Thanks everyone I made it safe and sound
Wasn't bad actually
The first 5 or so mins whilst we climbed to cruising altitude but once up there I was fine
Phew
Now to get back home 😂

VinEtFromage · 16/08/2023 20:14

@linksonvabe where did you fly into?

i was flying into Montpelier, but I had to cancel. Wish I was there!!!

i can sympathise, but I'm weird, I LOVE take off & landing. I would be happy to fly back & forth all day!!

Dont spoil your holiday thinking about the flight back, it'll be just as 'fine' 😊

Well done @linksonvabe

For all the nervous flyers can I recommend these guys? I found the podcasts useful as listened to them before and during the flights, but they have loads more on this website

Weirdly I'm not tired but probably will be knackered by 8pm
Ha ha
Normally before flying I can't sleep at all so I'm grateful for anything
I've got the window seat and I'm with my partner too so I'm safe

You'd be just as safe without your partner, unless perhaps he's a pilot.

Op I hate flying SO MUCH but I am currently on holiday in North America and it took two flights to get here including one of 10 hours. We are having a great time but I didn't even want to come and was regretting not booking our usual cottage in north wales.

I joined the fb group Lovefly and there is loads of support on there, including a really helpful flight checklist, lode of podcasts and a relaxation technique podcast.

It did help me a little and aside from take off and landing I was pretty calm for the 10
Hour flight- just have the return keg to ensure now!!

Have a great trip!
