I don’t need this stress right now

Namechanged4now · Today 23:23
im panicking - we had sex and the condom broke. I’m within the ovulation window, will go and get MAP tomorrow but that is a few hours from now. Also since I’m within the fertile window I know it’ll be useless. I’m panicking as I really don’t want another baby - not sure why I’m posting it here but want to get it off my chest as I’ll be on tenterhooks until my next period.

Is there a 24 hour pharmacy you can go to now? The one time it happened to us years ago we found a boots only a couple of miles away. Have a look online

Namechanged4now · 16/08/2023 06:52

@BMrs no couldn’t see one. I’m waiting for Boots to open now do I can get it.

Don’t see a point though as I’m in the ovulation window.

If you have not yet ovulate

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/08/2023 06:56

If you have not yet ovulated it will delay/ prevent ovulation so it is definitely worth using.

Namechanged4now · 16/08/2023 07:15

@Lonecatwithkitten as per my period tracker today is the last day of my ovulation window. Which means l could have been ovulation yesterday hence my question around is it really useful.

@Namechanged4now

I don't know if it'll be effective BUT it definitely won't be effective if you don't take it, so what have you got to lose?

Is DH/DP booked in for a vasectomy?

TheChosenTwo · 16/08/2023 07:48

We had 2 burst in 2 weeks (I threw the box away after that, raging!), 2 lots of MAP and a concerned word from the pharmacist 🫣
If you don’t take it there’s no chance it will work. If you do take it there’s more of a chance.

MadeForThis · 16/08/2023 08:17

Could you get a coil fitted?

Namechanged4now · 16/08/2023 08:26

@MadeForThis will look into that once I pass this. I’m at boots but just feel awful thinking what if I’m pregnant and then I’ll have to think of termination etc…it’s going to be a nightmare until I get my period..

Had EllaOne- now starts the anxious wait until my period

LittleRedYoshi · 16/08/2023 10:27

Try not to panic, the likelihood of your falling pregnant from this is low. Yes, accidents happen, but the chances of conception even when you're deliberately trying are only something like 20% per cycle. Given that it was one slip up and you've taken the MAP, the probability of this resulting in pregnancy is lower still.

Namechanged4now · 16/08/2023 10:48

@LittleRedYoshi thank you. Your words are really comforting. I’m very clear that I don’t want another child-have one and that’s me done. So if I get pregnant that’s a emotional journey of going through termination which I really would like to avoid.

Copper coil. If you have it fitted within 5 days (? I think) it kills the sperm, and if memory serves, I think it's just as effective during the fertile period, too. You can book an appointment to have it removed a couple of weeks later should you not want to continue with it.
Contact GP or nearest sexual health clinic and mention you'd be using it as emergency contraception so they book you in asap if you consider this method. X

@VinEtFromage

Is DH/DP booked in for a vasectomy?

What a strange question to ask.

SandySan · 16/08/2023 11:46

Yes you can have an emergency coil fitted. I got offered one once in a similar situation years ago.

Namechanged4now · 17/08/2023 09:52

Wasn’t aware of the emergency coil option. I’ve done everything I can - it’s now an anxious wait until period date

I’m guessing since I took the MAP my period will be delayed this month?

It might be, but it is not a certainty (recent family experience of EllaOne: her period came on time).

Namechanged4now · 17/08/2023 10:34

@incognito50me thank you- I was wondering when would be a good time to start doing the pregnancy test. I’ll assume the usual day and test from then onwards.

OP posts:
Wowzel · 17/08/2023 10:35

You could still get an emergency coil if you wanted one

Yes, that was our plan too. On average, periods are one to two days delayed on EllaOne from what I read.

aintnothinbutagstring · 17/08/2023 11:32

Going forward - can you not use another form of contraception to prevent worries like these?

Namechanged4now · 17/08/2023 12:01

@aintnothinbutagstring yes thinkijng of that - I just need my over active brain to quieten down re: pregnancy/abortion so that I can think straight

Namechanged4now · 17/08/2023 12:04

Read the below in a website so I'm hoping (really really hoping) that this would not result in a pregnancy

'At age 25, a woman has approximately 75% normal eggs. By age 35, that number drops to around 45%, and by 40, it’s around 20-30%. This is one reason why most physicians recommend genetic testing for conditions such as Trisomy 21 in a pregnancy over age 35.'
