Is this to good to be true ... Comes in under 1200 calories

Slice granary toast, satsuma, half apple
Almond milk latte

Jacket potato and salad (leaves tomato cucumber)
Light yoghurt
Almond milk latte

Tuna steak
Vegetables
Soy sauce/spices

AND....packet crisps and a Twirl!!!

Its the last bit I'm questioning. Can I really have unhealthy snacks and lose weight?
What am I missing?

You'd probably feel fuller if you had rice or potatoes and a sauce with the tuna instead of the crisps and Twix, but there's nothing wrong with what you've had at all.

Crispsandchocolatebar · 15/08/2023 19:16

Yes I suppose the risk is hunger means I end up eating more later.

I think that sounds pretty normal.

Protein!!

You have some in the almond milk, the yohgurt and a fair amount in the tuna but you're missing opportunities in the other meals and it wont be enough for the day anyway

As long as you are in a calorie deficit yes, you can. I have, & maintained, & I’ve just eaten chocolate for dinner for the 3rd time since Friday.

Defaultsettings · 15/08/2023 19:47

Half an apple? Eat the whole one.

Are you having a topping on your potato?

GangleLoper · 15/08/2023 19:48

Eat bigger more filling meals, ditch the crisps and Twirl and replace with something like fruit, yoghurt with dark chocolate for a sweet fix.

So little food there you’d be hard pushed to stick to it.

CremeEggThief · 15/08/2023 19:48

Why did you only have half an apple?

Crispsandchocolatebar · 15/08/2023 19:53

Breakfast is an effort hence the half an apple with the toast and orange - rather than limiting/obsessing over calories.

I have realised if I have breakfast I am less likely to snack at work (ie biscuits!) so I do make myself have it.

It looks very carb heavy at the expense of healthy fats and protein. These will keep you fuller for longer.

I would be looking to replace the low fat yoghurt with a full fat version and adding a lot more plant variety. Change the snacks to healthy ones e.g nuts or berries or dark chocolate and you will loose weight quicker.

It is not just the calories that are important but the food matrix and how you body absorbs them which is influenced by your microbiome. If you support this through a whole food diet it will be much easier to loose weight and maintain the weight loss.

sparkleshin · 15/08/2023 20:02

why dont you have... (this is off my own menu)

breakfast: overnight oats with strawberries

lunch: one fishcake, tartar sauce, watercress, cherry tomatos, cucumber

dinner: bacon and lentil soup

evening treat: green tea, some chocolate mint thins

Similar to my average day

For example overnight oats and peanut butter
snack of figs or prunes
tuna salad for lunch
snack of roasted broad beans
dinner of chicken, mash, red cabbage etc
milk throughout the day in teas and coffees

Crispsandchocolatebar · 15/08/2023 20:12

I do often have overnight oats with fruit.

I did look at dark chocolate in shop but there were only big bars which come with the risk I eat the whole bar.

Likewise nuts. I sometimes stop at Lidl for nuts because they come loose so I can buy a small portion.

bellac11 · 15/08/2023 20:14

Ive got a feeling in Lidl and perhaps Aldi they do their chocolate bars which separate into 5 small bars, individually wrapped?

I buy big bags of prunes and nuts in Aldi and I also order raw almonds from Amazon and roast them in the oven and put spices and salts over them, much better and cheaper than shop bought flavoured nuts

Crispsandchocolatebar · 15/08/2023 20:19

They do - in lovely gold foil inside - but as shameful as it sounds I still risk eating several if I buy them. I've learnt only to buy snacks at the corner shop as and when I am having them.

I like the sound of roasting nuts at home. I could reduce salt and up the spices.

Too many carbs, not enough fats, protein or nutrient-dense foods.

PigginTeaBreak · 15/08/2023 20:24

I would make a plant based protein shake in replacement of the latte.

Sometimes I put a cold shot of espresso into my chocolate protein shake with almond milk to make it like an iced mocha. It's delicious.

Your meals sounds great!

YoBeaches · 15/08/2023 20:45

I'm probably surprised that comes in at 1200 to be honest. I would have thought more like 1400.

Breakfast definitely does curb the afternoon cravings so it's good to stick with that. But as pp said I would cut your carbs. One portion per day either breakfast, lunch or dinner and go higher on proteins and veg.

LolaSmiles · 15/08/2023 20:50

Personally I would swap the light yogurt for the normal version as lighter versions often have sweeteners in.

Unlike others I don't think the carbs are particularly high.

Agree with having more veg though and then having either the crisps or the chocolate, not both.

sparkleshin · 15/08/2023 20:57

I don't know what you enjoy eating but you can eat variations. maybe some inspo, my dinners and lunches this week are
chicken pie
hummus bhudda bowl
veg bowl
lentil and bacon soup

fishcakes and salad
salmon and couscous
chicken salad rolls
courgette pasta

breakfasts are overnight oats and strawberries, cinnamon swirls, bananas, crumpets and jam

WhisperingHi · 15/08/2023 21:01

Sounds like a lovely day of food with a good selection of fruits and veg!

Crispsandchocolatebar · 15/08/2023 21:03

I'm going to have to stop reading because I just found myself thinking "Mmmm... Crumpets and jam ...."!
