Hello, yes unfortunately we’ve experienced it first hand and we had to leave our holiday early last week. Three out of four of our party were very poorly. I’m sure many people are unaffected and have had lovely holidays but there are many families also had their trips ruined. I believe local council and health authorities are involved now so hopefully the situation will improve.

Iam4eels · 15/08/2023 20:09

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. Did they refund you for your unused days at the very least? Doesn't make up for the disappointment or sickness but you shouldn't be charged for the full holiday.

Here's hoping they manage to get on top of it quickly.

I’d say it will probably be the cleanest it’s ever been come next week

Haha! You're probably right. We took the DC last year and made the mistake of going to the pool, the cha going rooms were the rankest thing I have ever seen. Felt like I needed a bath in bleach afterwards.

They are pretty hot at kicking out or confining to the apartments once they are aware of the issues to stop this type of thing spreading. Sadly not everyone listens and you’ll see even threads on here previously where parents have a child with clear d&v/noro being advised to go and buy their own sheets rather than ask the office and get kicked off/confined.

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 15/08/2023 20:16

Ohhh I hadn't seen this. We stayed 7 days in a private caravan there a few weeks ago and on the last day my 4 year old wasn't well.

Sick once with a raging temperature but managed to pack up and get home without anybody else affected.

I'd expect norovirus to have been much worse so I'm very grateful 🙏

98Del · 15/08/2023 20:22

Yes, we managed to travel back a day early so will be refunded for the night we didn’t use thankfully. Hope your daughter has a lovely trip 😊. As the other post said it will probably be sparkling when she arrives lol. Was pretty grim in public toilets/pool etc last week.

The Bognor resort was super clean when I went in 2021- so impressed

MargaretThursday · 15/08/2023 20:25

We were at Butlins once when it hit the news that norovirus had hit about 800 people on site.

Our party of around 20 managed to stay clear. We were told if one person in the group had it, everyone had to stay in the chalet.

As we left the cleaners were swarming the site in protective gear.
I knew someone there the next week and it was fine.

We went a few years ago, pre-covid, and I was really impressed at the level of cleanliness and visible cleaning staff there keeping on top of it. When we went last year it had noticeably declined and was really grubby in places, the pool changing rooms being one of them. The floor was minging with puddles of standing water, hair, food wrappers, used swim nappies, sticking plasters and the like strewn around and seemingly no one cleaning it up.

I'm not going to mention anything to DD about it just yet, will see what unfolds this week as to whether it worsens or improves.

We are going on Friday for a week. Hoping it calmed down when we get there. Have brought hand sanitiser by the volume 😂

To be honest. I could stay home and catch it.

Swirlingpearl · 15/08/2023 22:33

It says suspect noro but in the last week we’ve had covid , and all of us had d&v for 24 hrs . Seemed unusual as we’ve all had covid before twice but never the vomiting part. So I wonder if this is an updated version 🤢? Perhaps this is what’s going on there too?

feejee · 15/08/2023 22:38

We were there 10 days ago and both were ill by last day. However, i have never been to Butlins and one of us not been vomiting by the end of it. (Usually the kid who still loves the place and wants to go year after year). Theres just so many people in a small space and all those 2p's moving between little hands.

We go quite often and I never let the kids into the arcade until the last night because I don't want them catching stuff off the coins.

At least if we wait until the last night we will be home before anything becomes apparent.

Probably backwards thinking and I'm usually really laid back but all those coins give me the ick.

Nat6999 · 15/08/2023 22:54

We had a stomach bug when we went years ago, ds who was only a toddler started with it & we came home early, then dh & I started two days later. The only place we had eaten was the Burger King, it was at the Skegness site.

Mindovermatter247 · 15/08/2023 23:16

We went to butlins skegness every year from 2008 up until 2018. We had a break in 2019 because we went to Disney land Paris but had booked for 2020, obviously due to covid lockdown we had to cancel and it was transferred to 2021 until we found out they no longer did the bline passes which were essential for DS who has autism. The first few years we had inclusive food but the last 6 we only ate in the restaurants onsite or in Skeggy town centre except Burger King (can’t stand it) I can honestly say we never had any sickness whilst there.

This is interesting, several of the guys at work have been I’ll the last week, started off with my brother, he had flu symptoms… then several others got it… I think so far only 4 have had vomiting, one of which because she’s been coughing her guts up… I did mention to her it could be covid.. I’ve seen quite a few people say they’ve been vomiting with it now.

MissSmiley · 15/08/2023 23:44

@Mindovermatter247 vomiting was my first covid symptom in October 2020, I had it again in February this year but wasn't sick that time. It's certainly odd

Cantthinkofadifferentname · 16/08/2023 07:34

We went about 6 years ago when we got home DS came down with vomiting, it was either food poisoning or a virus. Managed to contain it at home, he only passed it on to me.
Never picked anything up from any other holiday, never again we will go to Butlins, chalet and communal areas cleanliness was iffy

D82 · 16/08/2023 16:08

We were there from 7-11July. By Thursday I was unwell with the same symptoms which thankfully only lasted 2 days. My daughter was not affected by it, however my partner got ill on Sunday. Can’t really blame Butlins…. It is what it is, and it takes only one person to spread. We just have to try to keep general hygiene in place.

PS. Our apartment were really nice and clean 🧼
