Have I got the job ?!

Has an interview today at midday for a job in a different department at work. So I am an internal candidate. The panel said they would probably not decide today but I would hear towards end of the week.

Had a voicemail at 4.30pm from the manager from the panel to say they would try and speak to me again tomorrow for a 'chat'.

It's bad news isn't it ?!

not necessarily, could be either way or just a clarification of something!

Good Luck!!

Hummusanddipdip · 15/08/2023 18:05

Not always, they may want to clarify one or two points with you, or just a general chat about expectations, could be a job offer. Could be anything.

It could also be a sorry you haven't got it call. But I've always tried to have the mindset of "the job is yours until they tell you no"

Do you feel the interview went well?

Good luck!

The interview seemed to go fine but I don't know who else has applied !!

I thought if I had got the job they would have left me a voicemail offering me the post.

No recruiting manager I know would offer the role on voicemail. They would always offer it when actually speaking to you.

lollipoprainbow · 15/08/2023 18:26

I think it was because they said about a 'chat' which I assumed would be feedback about not getting the job.

What happened when you rang back? I’d do so immediately, if you haven’t already. You may still catch him.

daisychain01 · 15/08/2023 18:29

I once applied for an internal role and although I was fully qualified for it, I didn't think I stood a chance but applied anyway.

A week later I got a call from the recruiting manager who said he needed a chat but could I find a private room. My heart sunk, he was going to give me bad news.

The reverse, he wanted to give me the good news, I got the job and how soon could I start Grin

Don't despair it could be the news you want to hear 👍

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/08/2023 18:31

I recon you’ve got it

Splcam · 15/08/2023 18:36

Recruitment is part of my job role and over the last couple of years I've been on about 15 or so panels. We typically tell the candidates they should hear within a week. And we always try and contact the candidate as soon as the decision is made. More often than not, that's the same day even if quite late in the afternoon about 5 or 6 pm.

We try and do it ASAP so if they turn it down we can offer to any reserve candidates.

Read into that what you will - though obvs the policy and practice could be very different in your organisation 🙂

lovemelongtime · 15/08/2023 18:40

They wouldn't say you've got the job on a message so this was just a clumsy way to ask you to call them back. Fingers crossed.

Similar experience here, good luck Op.

If they rang you the same day I'd say it's a fair bet you got the job!

They don't normally inform unsuccessful candidates until the successful one has accepted the offer, I'd say it's too quick for that to have been done already.

My current job I interviewed on the Friday mid morning them immediately went out for the day on my bike. When I stopped/got home I had several missed calls all within an hour of the interview but by this time it was 6pm.

I spent all weekend dissecting my interview, wondering how it had gone etc etc

Monday morning I found out they'd been ringing to offer me the job - could've saved myself 2 days of torture if I'd just answered the phone 🫣😂

lollipoprainbow · 15/08/2023 21:28

I think the last interview was at 3pm and my missed call/voicemail was 4.30pm. There's another internal candidate who already works in the department so I wonder if she was successful.

It was a No as I thought pipped to the post by the other internal candidate.

Aw that’s a shame but you can get feedback and at least they know you are interested in the role/progression ( I have applied for an internal post, I suspect they have thei person the want in the role in mind but still want an interview)

That's a shame Op. Did you get any useful feedback?

Hummusanddipdip · 17/08/2023 16:46

Oh I'm sorry!! Did you get some decent feedback that you can really sink your teeth into?

lollipoprainbow · 17/08/2023 16:56

It was basically against me and the other internal candidate and they have slightly more experience that's all. It was very close. She said the interview was fine it wasn't that which stopped me getting the role. She said to apply for anything else that comes up in the department.
