In credit with our energy supplier - how ease is it to get a refund?

We’ve just discovered we are almost £2000 in credit with our energy supplier.
Ideally we would like this refunded back into our own bank account but looking online it does seem like it can be a bit of a long drawn out process.
Has anyone done this? Was it simple and quick?

It's probably easier to freeze water on a rock in the middle of the Sahara, but dig your heels in, be prepared for a fight and threaten them with the regulator.

You must be with the wrong supplier, edf automatically send me a credit balance back when they do their - monthly reckoning, no effort at ll for me

I've never had this issue, I've wanted them to keep credit as we went into winter and they've insisted on refunding it.

I'm with British Gas - it's always been easy for me. They actually auto refunded me a load of credit recently and it was a nice surprise. If I ever want to request some credit I just call / message and it's done for me then and there.
