Would you go to housing association viewing if you were nowhere near the top of the list?

I'm currently looking for a 2 bed house
Been on the list 6 years now
For this house I finished 27/386
Do I bother going ?
There's no way I'm going to get it
I don't understand why they invite so many people to view it
I bid around 7 weeks ago now so it's taken a while
Last week I was 17/189 and didn't get that house
That was just top 20 viewing it
I'm confused why I'm 27th and got a viewing

Maybe it wasn't suitable for some of those higher on the list?

Zebedee55 · 15/08/2023 10:42

Unless it's undesirable, the chances of that many turning it down seems remote.

Perhaps phone and ask the HA why they are allowing so many to view?

peekaboo1986 · 15/08/2023 10:43

yes go, others a head of you may of turned it down or not meet the requirements. We got our beautiful new build town house when we were no 25! Two people turned it down and the rest didn’t meet employment rules.

HA don't always go by where you are on the post, they go on affordability. When we moved to our HA property from council we were 11th, but our affordability came back and we were offered the house.

Just got back
I was 9th on list
I was the only one there at the time but I was early
It was such a nice house
I want it but doubt I'll get it being 9th

Fingers crossed for your OP. They wouldn't invite a large number unless they felt it was necessary to guarantee someone taking up tenancy.

Chowtime · 15/08/2023 16:11

Crossing fingers for you OP

LookingForPurpose · 15/08/2023 16:17

Fingers crossed op!

I was number 20 something, although was then prioritised due to a medical need for ground floor accommodation which took me to number 6. And I got it! So you never know..
Good luck.
