Amazon gift card we bought at Asda can't be redeemed- lost receipt- what to do?

I bought an Amazon gift card, last week, for a friend's new grandchild (to the parents, obvs!) from Asda. We use self-scan, you had to scan it onto the till not via the zapper.

The recipients can't redeem it.

Amazon have told them they need to photograph the card's number and our receipt (which has been binned).

What should we do?

I fear the queued-up overworked, over stressed person on Asda's in-store help desk might not be able to help. Is there an online help thing?

Did you check asdas website for one?

Don't shop in Asda so don't know if they have a loyalty system but in Sainsburys if you swiped your nectar card when you paid they can find your purchase. You don't need the receipt. It's saved me many a time!

If you paid for it by card, take your statement in to show when you bought it and that you did pay for it.

This happened to me in Morrisons and the card hadn't been activated, but they could go into the till history and find the transaction.

I think there's quite a few things that can go wrong with buying gift cards in supermarkets that the 'queued-up overworked, over stressed person on Asda's in-store help desk' has probably seen this sort of thing many a time before so could well be able to sort it for you.
