I feel rubbish.

I've had:
Paracetamol
Spicy chilli and ginger noodle soup
Chocolate ice cream

...and have cat on lap.

Anything else?

Honey from your local area is supposed to be magic. Elderberry syrup

Get pissed.Youll wake up the next day with no cold.Tried and tested.

This.

Get a bottle of vodka and get wasted.

Whilst your body is clearing itself of alcohol toxins, it clears out everything else too (from bowels to virus!).

It has worked for me. I call it kill or cure 🤣

CheshireCat1 · 14/08/2023 22:59

I use Sterimar every day, rheumatologist recommended it, I never get colds, or an alcohol alternative, Benedictine hot toddy.

Oh bum. Guess who didn't read the full thread!

In that case - an entire chicken in an Instapot. Cook in 20 mins. The juices - to those add some noodles and bit if needed, if not just drink it from a bowl.

Apologies for the booze post.

Hot Ribena and a cosy period drama always works for me.
😄

LunaNorth · 14/08/2023 23:08

I want a cold now…

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 14/08/2023 23:15

Hot toddy. Doesn't actually do much for the cold but you'll be so pissed you won't care. You're welcome.

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 14/08/2023 23:19

Combining some common themes: steep lemon slices in boiling water, add generous amounts of honey and add an effervescent vit c tablet. Occasionally add some ginger as well. Hot bath. Early night. Magic.

I used to do a double lemsip with extra lemon and honey. Real knockout stuff, would sleep like a log and wake up cured.

Real knockout stuff…… paracetamol overdose!

Merapi · 14/08/2023 23:24

Eat loads of garlic.

Nobody will come close enough to you to give you a cold in the first place.

SkiingIsHeaven · 14/08/2023 23:27

A pint of Taquila, orange juice and honey. Heat it in the microwave and then go straight to bed. You will sweat a lot but you will wake up with no cold.

Piemam · 14/08/2023 23:49

Coca-Cola, poured into a microwaveable cup, along with some raw, grated or sliced ginger (however much you can stomach). Heat gently and drink. Think this is typically sore throat stuff but ginger is amazing for health, likewise garlic for sinuses.

Let us know what you tried and results please!

Sorry, shouldn't laugh.

But...

specialsauce · 15/08/2023 00:12

chinese hot and spicy soup from local takeaway

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 15/08/2023 00:16

Peanut m&Ms. My mum bought me a bag once when I had a bag cold and I felt better in the morning.

Or brandy/whisky and hot water. She did me one of those once too. Not sure which it was. I think I slept for 48 hours!

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 15/08/2023 00:19

Oh... not a hot toddy. Don't have that.

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 15/08/2023 00:28

Whiskey and ginger wine. Just don't do what I did and think ginger wine is just like ginger beer!! I filled a tall glass half whiskey and half ginger wine and necked it back. I didn't see about a day and a half 😅 plus side I went from feeling like death warmed up to pretty much back to normal once I'd woken up again

sjpkgp1 · 15/08/2023 00:41

Depends on the type of cold, For the fluey aching sort, I would agree with @SingingSandsregular hot ribena (full strength not the sugar free variety) coupled with intermittent paracetamol and ibuprofen and take to your bed, or you can do hot lemon drinks Max flu strength if you prefer. Be prepared to change your nightclothes for the sweating. For the wet sort of cold (nose streaming, eyes itching, can't stop sneezing, but otherwise OK) , I agree with @WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter vodka does seem to dry it up. Not medical advice of course, but has served me well.

A friends parents would leave 1/2 a cut onion in their bedroom when sick. No idea what it was supposed to do though?

My grandma always said that a raw onion absorbs germs. Which put me off eating onions in a salad .

HangingOver · 17/08/2023 17:25

I've actually inadvertently discovered that drinking far too hot coffee and scalding your throat sort of stops it being so sore.
