I feel rubbish.

I've had:
Paracetamol
Spicy chilli and ginger noodle soup
Chocolate ice cream

...and have cat on lap.

Anything else?

Parsnip and garlic soup. Chop up 3 parsnips roughly, peel a whole garlic bulb of cloves , pint of chicken stock. Throw it all in a pan bring to the boil, simmer for 30 minutes, cool a bit and blitz. Heat half a cup every four hours and spoon down.

Old Canarian recipe, it weirdly doesn't taste garlicky but it works.

DCs also like cheese on toast with garlic cloves and chilli. They swear that shifts anything.

Slice up two or three lemons, put them in a jug, pour boiling water over them, leave them to steep. Sweeten with honey and drink. Keep topping up the water. By the second or third day it’s lovely and lemony. You can microwave a mug of it once it’s cold. My mum’s cold cure.

Hot toddy. Tot of whisky, squeeze of lemon, squeeze of honey, hot water. I’m teetotal now, but I swore by this.

HarrietofFire · 14/08/2023 22:30

A shot of tequila

justasking111 · 14/08/2023 22:31

The honey, lemon and water I take to bed if I wake up coughing it stops the tickle and the cough in a minute or two. I barely wake up.

Twilight7777 · 14/08/2023 22:31

Cut up pieces of garlic, put it in a jar with honey, have a spoonful of the mixture every couple of hours (not during sleep obvs). I find it shortens my colds. Also hot lemonade, honey and lemon juice. Gargle with salt water.

Chewing gum helps lubricate a sore throat.

Sweet and cold food - a MaccyD’s milkshake to go with the chips? A Slushie?

A pan of stew, but only if you can get someone else to make it.

Heinz Tomato Soup with plastic white bread dipped in and some old sitcom on the telly. Fire up Britbox.

Fuckmyliferightnow · 14/08/2023 22:34

Look into Honion syrup

Firsttimecaller · 14/08/2023 22:36

Hold your hair dryer about 12" from your face and set to warm, breathe deeply for 5-15 minutes, as long as you can stand it.
It dries up the mucous membranes and kills the rhinovirus in your nose.

LaMaG · 14/08/2023 22:36

Hot toddy / whiskey as mentioned upthread. It's miraculous, nothing like it.

GertrudeJekyllRose · 14/08/2023 22:37

Hot Toddies always for a cold. Lemon, honey, whiskey, ginger & hot water. You'll feel so much better.

See this one doesn't sound that mad. Along with eating mustard.

Drink as much water as you can reasonably manage
Drink coconut water (especially if you have a sore throat)
Take a decongestant (psuedoephedrine) alternated with paracetamol - take a photo of the packet with each dose so you can check when you took it and not take too much in your confused ill state
Drink Tom Yum soup
Take Manuka honey or lozenges
Gargle with salty water and keep your teeth clean (always makes me feel better)
Sleep
Keep your room cool/aired but yourself nice and warm
Do some DIY acupressure & sinus release massages on yourself

get well soon!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 14/08/2023 22:43

You need to take those really strong effervescent vitamin c tablets - every few hours first day, then one a day (don't take more than one a day after first day as they can cause diarrhoea)

A swig of old school night nurse.

LunaNorth · 14/08/2023 22:50

You need a Dressing Gown of Doom too. Why should men have all the fun?

And perfect your shuffle.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 14/08/2023 22:52

Famous Grouse . At least you feel more cheerful.

mumda · 14/08/2023 22:53

Honey and lemon and hot water. Real honey from a local beekeeper though.

And plenty of sleep.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 14/08/2023 22:54

Ginger beer and a curry to get things running

Veryverycalmnow · 14/08/2023 22:54

Loads of blueberries, ribena, blankets, telly.
