Fostering Dogs

We lost our dog almost a year ago. My DH found it so hard dealing with her loss. We had her 6 years and he was his first dog.

i know he does not want another dog. Today I mentioned the possibility of being fosterers for Battersea. To my surprise, he did not dismiss it out of hand.
I am thinking probably in the new year would be a good time to apply.

Please can you share your good and bad experiences. Tell me what we need to prepare and any advice. We are both fit and retired with a very quiet secure garden.

I couldn’t do it, would be failed foster central here. I’m a sucker for a dog.

I foster cats and it's so much easier to let them go then you think it'll be. Especially compared to losing one of your own. I failed twice, and am essentially looking to fail again, as my own remaining cat is lonely. I know dogs is harder as they're generally more effort etc then cats but from an emotional perspective I think it'll be similar.

I've fostered quite a lot. Its hard work. Really hard. You don't know what their issues are going to be, and those issues sometimes don't become apparent until weeks have gone past. Some won't sleep at night. Some will sleep but have the dog equivalent of night terrors. Some won't come out of their crate, some won't go in one.
Some will break your heart when you part from them, some you will be so exhausted from meeting their needs that you can't wait to see them go (much as you will miss them). But its worth it

I'm a foster mum and I love it! I started doing it after my beloved baby doggy died. I wanted dogs but I didn't want a dog of my own.

Sometimes it's tough. But I love all my little fosterees. And all of the forever mums keep my updated with pics and vids and it makes me warm and fuzzy.

However - I do have 2 failed fosters sat with me on the sofa right now so be prepared for that
