MOT and road tax?

Do you just need the MOT renewed to renew road tax or do you need to renew the MOT certificate when it expires even if the road tax is still in date?

Yes, you need a valid MOT certificate.

You need to renew the mot when it expires. It is not legal to drive the car without a valid mot and could invalidate your insurance too.

You need to do both, as and when they are due.

Your MOT needs renewing when it expires. ANPR will pick up cars with expired MOTs. The only place you can take a car with an expired MOT is a pre booked MOT test. You can’t leave it parked on the road either.
