What’s the Covid situ in New Zealand?

Twitter tells me lots of New Zealand folk are very upset, some guideline about covid isolation & masking has been lifted I think?

I’m surprised, I didn’t realise any countries still had restrictions, or at least none that people cares much about any more. What’s the Covid situation over there? Is Covid still a significant problem?

We are finally rid of 7 day isolation and use of masks in healthcare settings (the last remaining covid restrictions). About bloody time. Some ppl are quite upset about it and claim govt has forgotten about vulnerable ppl etc. Most ppl are sympathetic to their situation bit just want to get on with it. My kids have lost so much school because they had to be home for 7 days when they barely had the sniffles.

Covid is probably about as prevalent here as it is anywhere ie it is now endemic. It's winter and there are still ppl dying from it, along with flu deaths. Secondary school local to me had 20% off last week with repsiratory illnesses, apparently 20% of those were covid (but not everyone is testing and of those not everyone officially reporting).

I read that NZ lifted the last of its COVID restrictions a couple of days ago and couldn't believe they still had them. Bonkers.

@GourmetLettuceMix what does the average kiwi think of Saint Jacinda? The "harder, faster, longer" fans in the MSM here lapped up her approach, but like so many involved with the COVID restrictions she quickly disappeared when the tide turned.

I'm in New Zealand, absolutely no-one has mentioned it in my work, friends etc. People are talking about the World Cup and the awful child murder case

It's a mix. NZers were fairly compliant with lockdowns & wanted to protect our vulnerable. They mostly supported the Government approach. Most people thought the Auckland lockdown went on too long. Loud anti-vax & anti-mandate sector but again most people complied. There was no right answer to Covid I think.

Jacinda's very left wing politics/policies were more divisive IMO.
