If this isn’t photoshopped, then I would say this is 100% a big cat.

They are obviously thriving in the wild and do not need to be culled or moved into a zoo

'Clearest ever' picture could prove big cats are prowling the UK countryside

The photo was discovered in the files of a zoology organisation.

If there are big cats roaming the countryside then where are the tracks, the scat and the remains of their prey? It's because there aren't any.

aslander · 14/08/2023 16:46

@flickersy are you privy to that information? No neither am I. I did not say there was an established breeding population but have given my opinions on how a sighting of a big cat could be possible. Why are people so quick to dismiss things that could be possible?

Lucanus · 14/08/2023 16:48

@aslander UFOs confirmed? Government is covering up big cats to prevent mass hysteria? Do you really believe this? The UFO story was all hearsay.

When there was an actual escaped Lynx in Wales it was all over the media until it was shot. Leopards or Pumas or whatever would get the same treatment.

If people have any genuine DNA evidence of big cats then they should publish it and show everyone the evidence. This never happens - it's all rumours and 'sightings' and blurry photos of domestic cats.

You believe what you want to believe and I'll do the same

Lucanus · 14/08/2023 16:53

@aslander I'll believe the evidence when I see it.

That's fair enough. My personal opinion is that there's far too many sightings from independent people to dismiss it outright plus I have a credible witness

Well finally I feel able to share this photo I took of a t rex I saw when I was out for a walk in cotswolds. thankfully I got away by staying very very still.

Upon examining the image (which is in no way linked to trying to flog a TV programme and book, no Siree), it's more special than the usual Black Panther measuring 7 foot long and weighing ten stone. It's a glowing blue around the edges Micro Panther, roughly the size of your standard domestic mog and overshadowed by a humble blade of grass.

Only a bitter cynic could say otherwise.

David Attenborough can film tiny creatures in uninhabited wild areas so I’m pretty sure we could film a bit cat if we had them.

Swanswam · 14/08/2023 17:25

my whole class saw one in Wales about 30 years ago. It was absolutely enormous and was standing on its hind legs half climbing a tree, obviously trying to stalk something that was in the branches. We all stopped walking and there was a collective “oh fuck”. It was hard to process what we were seeing. We watched it from a distance for about 30 seconds, then it disappeared into the undergrowth. It was unmistakably a big cat, probably a panther as it looks like the pictures of them that I’ve seen and the scale would be right too.

janicewithpictures · 14/08/2023 17:32

Do any domestic cats have that sort of head/face? It seems different.
With all the sheep around I cannot imagine a cat exerting itself to run after a high speed deer.

YourNameGoesHere · 14/08/2023 17:33

I mean I don't want to say that it's not true but isn't it very convenient that these people have found some concrete evidence whilst filming a documentary about whether there are big cats still roaming in this country.

well if you were a cat you wouldn’t enjoy getting all that wool stuck in your teeth.

I saw what looked like a big cat in winter, 15 years ago. We don't even live in a rural area, so perhaps it could have been a huge domestic cat? We were in a nature reserve. But I've never been frozen to the spot in fear of a cat before. I was in slow labour with my first baby and went for a walk to help speed things up. There was massive flock of canada geese walking up a grass bank and this cat amongst them. It was bigger than the geese and they weren't scared of it, which seemed strange. We were absolutely terrified. I think I might have believed I was imagining it if my boyfriend hadn't seen it too. We tried taking a photo on my phone but I had a poor quality camera on a flip phone and it just looked like a black blur. Nobody believed us! They all said it must have been a dog but it had the unmistakeable curved back and flicking tail of a cat.

Busubaba · 14/08/2023 18:11

We had a ginormous cat in our garden once.

I'm sure it was responsible for sneaking in the house when the patio doors were open and raided the fridge.

Not sure why so many people struggle to get their heads around the possibility that big cats could be living wild in the UK

When the laws surrounding keeping big cats were changed a lot of people simply released them into the wild instead of having them put down

Also, if a big cat escapes from a zoo it's not even a requirement to inform the relevant authorities

I read only a few months ago that a hair found on a wire fence in the UK was confirmed to be that of a Panther

Anybody would think we're talking about Bigfoot or Nessy

We know big cats exist, we know they live in this country. We know they were released by private collectors and we know that they could have escaped from a zoo

The law to stop people keeping big cats in the UK came in in 1976. Hence if we believe the theory of a wild population arising from illegal releases into the wild around that time, they would have been out there and breeding successfully for nearly 50 years now.

Big cats live about 16 years on average. They reach sexual maturity at around 3-4 years.

Almost all hybrid big cat offspring are sterile.

Given these stats, it seems very unlikely that there could be an established breeding population large enough to maintain itself over at least three generations, when most of the offspring are infertile, yet this necessarily large population remains almost entirely undetected.

Has anyone seen a wild boar in the Forest of Dean? Apparently there are a LOT of them.

EmmaEmerald · 14/08/2023 18:52

LesbianNaan · 14/08/2023 15:54

I saw one as a teenager, as did many people in the area. That was about 30+ years ago.
Farmers in the area had livestock taken. Someone found remains of a sheep up a tree.
By all accounts they have a huge territory, wander far, and are very secretive.

Like a pp said, it’s not a mythical creature.

Exactly, I started a thread on this a while ago

that said, this new photo is pretty dodgy IMHO.

I've never personally seen them but a quick Google shows there is very clear video footage of them and photographic evidence. Something that is always missing when discussing big cats.

Johnduttonsbuttocks · 14/08/2023 19:24

I have definitely seen one - a huge black cat across the river on a walk in East Yorkshire. All along the riverbank I kept coming across the remains of birds - countless remains - just their wings. It really freaked me out.
