Gatwick security, time to get through

Hi all, I have looked for a similar thread but found nothing.
For anyone who has flown from Gatwick South Terninal early (7am) this summer what was security like for queues?
Last year’s news was full of holiday/gatwick woe and it was quite busy when we flew tbh, but is it better this year? We won’t need to check bags.

We flew around the same time last week and had pre booked in - security was fine, no real queue at all.

Oh thank you @Ilovewillow that is hugely reassuring.

Do you have to allow 2 hours before a flight or is one hour enough?

We allowed 1.5 hours earlier this summer and it was ok but a bit tight.

Good to know, I would rather get up a bit earlier to avoid the stress.

Is it over the bank holiday weekend?

GrandHighPoohbah · 14/08/2023 17:16

I went through Gatwick last week. No long queue at security, all very easy.

CheersToMe · 14/08/2023 17:30

Straight through at 4.30am today for a 6.30am flight.

Settodonotdisturb · 14/08/2023 17:30

We are travelling just after the bank holiday so we aren’t impacted by the handling strikes or train strikes @LlynTegid

Thanks to all your feedback Im thinking 2 hrs should be ok if we aren’t checking bags. I don’t want to spend ages in duty free but will need to grab a coffee!!!

Are any shops early on, say 5am?

Dogsitterwoes · 14/08/2023 17:54

There's a security fast track you book in advance that costs £5 if you are worried.

Just coming on to say this - you could play by ear and book fast track if it looks long.

Anyone know how long to allow if you have a bag to check in? I am flying with Wizz this Saturday.
