DS feeling sick and seeing things

DS woke me at 3am asking for a sick bowl. He'd already mentioned feeling sick at dinner and barely eaten so assumed a bug.

I lay with him and he told me that he kept seeing "little back and red flies" when he opens his eyes. He said they were everywhere flying from side to side of the room. He even had his arms up trying to catch them asking what they were. The imaginary flies were basically following his eye movements so I assume something in his vision.

Should I be worried? Does it sound like anything to anyone ? Type of migraine maybe? He said his head and tummy didn't hurt.

He's just gone back to sleep but got pretty upset about wanting the flies to go away and would they crawl all over him and bite him. He was just staring at the walls/ceiling constantly looking too worried to close his eyes bless him.

I am pretty stumped! He is 5.

Does he have a temperature? You can hallucinate with a high temperature. It happened to my son once and was scary! Hopefully he will feel better once he wakes up but give the gp a shout if not.

OMG! apparently when i was a child i saw orange balls flyiing around.. was an hallucination from a virus .. i dont remember myself but my parents told me.

Possibly migraine ? Ive had migraine of the stomach with aura from early childhood. Whatever it is you need proper medical advice.

sleepismyhobby · 14/08/2023 06:05

Could be a migraine ? I get similar when mine get really bad. Worth getting to a gp to check him over

Thank you. He has woken up and seems full of beans. He still says he's not hungry and doesn't want breakfast though so there must be something brewing.

He'll often be very chatty and say random things/seem slightly delirious when he wakes at night but this was different and quite unnerving. He was describing the flies to DH this morning, he's 100% convinced they were there.

He didn't have a temperature, if anything he felt a bit cold to touch.

His sister woke up at 3am the last few nights too when she usually sleeps great, so I wonder if it's a virus they both have. She seems to have had a bit of nosebleed overnight too which has never happened before. My poor babies!

@Readingineading do you get stomach pain with stomach migraine or just a nauseous feeling? He was adamant that his stomach didn't hurt and he 'only ' felt sick

Years ago, DD1 about that age, hallucinated golden fogs hopping around the room - but she had a really high fever...
Seems odd with no other real symptoms?

Check your carbon monoxide alarm.

@Dontbelieveinumbrellas I personally dont get any stomach pain, just hugely nauseous, vision disturbances and pain over one eye.
