I work in education and get the school holidays too and DH takes most of the times off so we try and make the most! First week DH worked from home and we relaxed and got things done - did hair appointments, holiday clothes shopping, quick catch ups with friends, trip to the library to choose summer books, cleaned the cars, visited older relatives, a day gardening, a big clean of the house all together. Our DC are young and really enjoy helping with jobs around the house.
Then we all came on holiday. We’re here for three week, very low key just a nice Air BnB on the coast in a sunny part of Europe. We’ve done basically nothing apart from read books, play in the pool, play at the beach for long afternoons into evening. Everything since we got here has been simple and inexpensive. Some nice walks, picnics out and cooking at home. The DC have enjoyed going to a local market as well as a little car boot sale in the village square where they bought some toys for a couple of euros and have been happily playing in the pool with them for days. We’ve taken dinner to the beach a few times and it’s been warm sitting out together. A couple of nice restaurants last week.
Once we get back, we’re going to stay with my family in another part of the UK for five days. It’s my hometown and a lovely city near the coast so we’ll enjoy catching up with people and the DC will play with their cousins on the beach / visit the museums in town.
The last week we haven’t got anything planned. Usually, DH will work from home and I will have another week like the first one - pottering around home, taking DC to buy uniform, changing library books, getting on top of the house and garden, little bike rides. A week of calm before school begins.
