CurlewKate · 13/08/2023 19:40

I've been for a weekend in Prague, 2 comedy shows and 2 picnics. And watched Good Omens. And they've made me several Martinis. Oh- did I forget to mention? They are 26 and 22.....🤣

TheGriffle · 13/08/2023 19:43

Cinema trip with sweets from home on meerkat Wednesday.

Park

Trip to the local shopping outlet that has a little outdoor play area to buy some crafts from The Works

Trip to a small theme park type place that I got half price tickets for

Summer camp for 6 different days over the whole 6 weeks

Weeks holiday booked for next week where we’re going away in the UK

Breakfast out (Kids ate for free) and Softplay trip

Trip out to a garden centre

Trip out to another garden centre

Trip out to a third garden centre (all different ones)

Ikea trip planned, my kids love Ikea.

And that’s about it apart from playing in the garden, in the pool etc. There’s also been a lot of Xbox played and Tv watched but hey ho, we’ve got to work and it won’t kill them to be sat in front of a screen for a few hours.

GoldenKiwi · 13/08/2023 19:45

I feel like we've done everything and nothing, if that makes sense?

A couple of day trips to visit family, swimming, MANY trips to the playground, a couple of play dates, shopping, art activities, Lego...but there has also been lots of "I'm bored"s and loafing around the house.

Probably less than the Joneses have done but we've had a lovely holiday so far.

Is just so great having a bit of time out of routine.

Cherryana · 13/08/2023 19:50

Swimming x 6
Visit my mum and dad x 3
visit other nanny and grandpa x 3
Walk and a cafe x 2
Visit to the town to go to JD sports
Theatre x 3 (but this is very unusual and due to two being free)
Off on a weeks holiday in the UK
One team sport thing
One meet up with friends at the park

The rest has been spent watching ….

The biggest expense so far has been the food. Went into Waitrose to buy Friday treats and came out £83 lighter with very little to show.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 13/08/2023 19:50

1 x Pond dipping and 1 x den building with our local Wildlife Trust

Trip to London

4 playdates

DS did 3 days at a sports camp

Also an afternoon in town to ride buses pointlessly (DS is a massive bus fanatic.)

Yourebeingtooloud · 13/08/2023 19:53

Week away - split between 2 cities.

Camping trip.

Weekend with family.

Lots of play dates, trips out to local sights, couple of cinema trips etc. They’ve also done a couple of activity days each.

Still to come - long weekend EU city break, weekend away with friends, more play dates and local trips.

We go out every day to do something, all of us are happier that way. This year we’ve been focusing on small adventures rather than a couple of bigger holidays and it’s been a lot of fun so far - they’re the perfect ages for it at 12 and 10.

gogomoto · 13/08/2023 19:53

@CurlewKate Grin

We went to a festival with dd and her dp, also over 18, its great fun having older kids with jobs

Clymene · 13/08/2023 19:53

Two weeks in Martinique, a week's surf school in Cornwall and then rock climbing lessons in the French Alps for a week.

Going to have a couple of days of downtime now before we head off to our villa in Ibiza until term starts. I miss our dog!

Naaaaaah

We've done some day trips and lots of lazy days.

MyMachineAndMe · 13/08/2023 19:55

Nothing that I can really lost on here as "doing something" unless you count sitting there in the same room as them whilst they hang about with their mates?

Taken them to Spain for a week. That's about all really. They are 25 and nearly 18 and don't really require a lot of entertainment!

Swimming
play parks
walks in different locations (like 20-30 min drive away).
deer centre
bike rides
padddling pool in garden (we put the slide in it lol). That was probably one of the most fun things!
free events nearby - these were science and sports festivals for kids and a multicultural festival (lots of displays and music etc)
one off summer music class

SnapBang · 13/08/2023 20:02

I work in education and get the school holidays too and DH takes most of the times off so we try and make the most! First week DH worked from home and we relaxed and got things done - did hair appointments, holiday clothes shopping, quick catch ups with friends, trip to the library to choose summer books, cleaned the cars, visited older relatives, a day gardening, a big clean of the house all together. Our DC are young and really enjoy helping with jobs around the house.

Then we all came on holiday. We’re here for three week, very low key just a nice Air BnB on the coast in a sunny part of Europe. We’ve done basically nothing apart from read books, play in the pool, play at the beach for long afternoons into evening. Everything since we got here has been simple and inexpensive. Some nice walks, picnics out and cooking at home. The DC have enjoyed going to a local market as well as a little car boot sale in the village square where they bought some toys for a couple of euros and have been happily playing in the pool with them for days. We’ve taken dinner to the beach a few times and it’s been warm sitting out together. A couple of nice restaurants last week.

Once we get back, we’re going to stay with my family in another part of the UK for five days. It’s my hometown and a lovely city near the coast so we’ll enjoy catching up with people and the DC will play with their cousins on the beach / visit the museums in town.

The last week we haven’t got anything planned. Usually, DH will work from home and I will have another week like the first one - pottering around home, taking DC to buy uniform, changing library books, getting on top of the house and garden, little bike rides. A week of calm before school begins.

BrutusMcDogface · 13/08/2023 20:02

We’ve done theme parks and a week away (uk).

WomanAtWork · 13/08/2023 20:04

@clymene you got me! 🤣

We’ve done:

  • holiday in Northern Europe
  • sleepover and playdates (loads)
  • couple of trips to do kayaking /climbing/ swimming locally
  • looking after and playing with our new pet
  • visit various local relatives x3
  • shopping for school shoes
  • Took dd and friend to watch Barbie movie
  • baked cookies
  • lots of bike rides/scooter to our nearby park

Coming up we have:

  • daytrip to south coast (sunshine at last!)

In Scotland so our holidays are almost up. I made a list at the start of the holidays with their help and we've ticked most of it off. Food featured quite heavily, dc1 wanted to try crab (he liked it) and dc2 wanted fancy icecream. They both loved fruit picking.

We have been swimming a lot and visited various museums, gardens, art galleries, castles and beaches. We also did a day at a theme park and a week's holiday.

Besides that we've done various days and nights out with friends and family. Played lots of board games and built lego. The local parks have been visited a lot and they've done the reading challenge through the library.

They have an activity camp coming up next week and dc1 has already done a couple of activity days. Besides that we have a few bits to finish for Scouting badges for dc2, a bit more Titanic to finish for dc1 and some sort of icecream to make.

herflu · 13/08/2023 20:05

Sahm of 5yo and 1yo, so I'm with them all day every day (5yo has done ballet camp, forest school and swimming lessons).
Holiday in Belgium, theatre show, soft play, small theme park, a few London museums, Zoo (several times with membership), stay and play, loads of playgrounds, swimming, urban beach, funfair. We go out every day. Was hoping to do a bigger theme park and a beach trip, but the weather and rail strikes keep wrecking those plans.
