If you’ve dated someone who is objectively a knobhead, why?

Was out last night at a music event and there was a couple there and the man was the most annoying, obnoxious, awful person I’ve ever encountered.

I think he was on coke, every other word was a swear word, he kept alternating between swearing at his date and over the top groping her. From what I could gather, it was their third or fourth date.

It was a music event with set seating, and by the end of the night that entire side of the bar had been asked to move away from him, he was that annoying, loud, obnoxious. He also heckled the music act with ‘banter’.

Anyway, if you’ve dated someone who was objectively a bit of a knobhead, just wondered why?

These guys always seem to get dates / have girlfriends and I don’t understand!

I can understand a terrible first date, or a long term relationship where someone has become terrible over time, but what about the middle ground? Is it the confidence?

Maybe they are the same? It’s not exclusive to men is it?!

Mushroo · 13/08/2023 19:35

@BananaSlug definitely happens both ways, but this man last night has stuck in my memory, and there’s more women on this site so easier to get a perspective from that way round!

Maybe they are nice to them so it makes them feel “special” women have always dated men that are bad including abusive men.

If it was their third or fourth date, this might have been the first time she’d seen him using cocaine. Maybe he wasn’t being a knobhead before, but now he’s showing his true colours. I hope there won’t be a fifth date.

That's the fourth date unmasking. He's decided she is desperate enough to welcome his true self and instead of being the relatively functional adult male, he's done a bunch of lines and turned out to be an utter prick.

Good chance she's sitting at home now thinking 'What the fuck?' and thinking of a wording for 'fuck off, don't contact me again' that won't unleash a tirade of abuse.

This is why ghosting is sometimes necessary.

Sometimes it takes a while for the knobhead behaviour to emerge.
I'm wondering why he wasn't removed from the venue rather than normal people having to move away from him!!
