Becoming a HCA at 47...Am I mad?

So I've always had a longing to become a nurse. I am however 47 now and realise the dream is over (I know I could still train but I don't think I have the ability/brain power to get a degree)

This has led me to think about becoming a Health Care Assistant at my local hospital. Some questions

Am I too old for this?
Will it completely ruin my work/life balance.

Thanks.

Have you thought about doing an access to nursing course and seeing how you get on with that? You may surprise yourself!

You are definitely not too old for either HCA or nursing, you’ve got another 20 odd years at least until retirement age - do something you’re passionate about.

I’m currently sat in Majors in A+E with my stepfather. There are lots of HCAs around, of all ages! They do a wonderful job with care and compassion. Go for it!

You're def not to old to become a HCA.

You will likely have to work days and nights.

What do you do at the moment? It's likely to be a drop in pay. An access to nursing course may work better unless you can afford the low pay.

I'm already in a minimum wage job but term time only. Therefore if I was successful I'd have a larger salary.

Go for it. My friend did it at about your age. She loves it. It's her calling. She's on a brilliant ward and is so happy.

You're definitely not too old.

Trainee nursing associate jobs might be one way in, though I'm sure others will be able to advise you about it, as my knowledge of this area is limited.
