What covers of music do you prefer to the original, and which original do you prefer over the cover?

I’m a gleek. I enjoy watching glee a lot and I do like a lot of their covers.

I can’t remember all of them but start with

Last Friday Night by Katy Perry. Covered by Darren Kriss aka Blaine Anderson. I much prefer the cover to this. The original seems to lack depth.

On the other hand Here’s to us by Halestorm covered by Lea Michele aka Rachel Berry is no where near as good. Lzzy Hale just rules every song of hers and no one can compare to that.

Joe Cocker made the song With a Little Help from My Friends his own, even the Beatles said so.

When You Wish Upon a Star by Eels, instead of Jiminy Cricket

And much prefer Goin' Down Slow by Free, with Paul Rodgers on vocals than the original St Louis Jimmy version.

@Coastalcreeksider Absolutely re Radio 2. Every time they play the Corrs version it sets me off ranting about why they never play Phil Lynott's one. Never 🤣

Agree about this. On the Kate Bush theme I much prefer Futureheads version of Hounds of Love

I also love Behind Blue Eyes sung by Limp Bizkit, which my husband is very embarrassed about!!

Bit a split on the Sound of Silence...

I once found a brilliant, male version of Adele's 'Hello' but can't remember the guy's name. 🤔

2. (not really an "original" as I think he wrote it for her but also recorded his own version")Prince "I feel for You " (although love CK's version too)

Darren Criss is an amazing singer.

Panic at the Disco did a great cover of Say It Ain't So by Weezer.

And Weezer did a good version of Enter Sandman.

Jeff Buckley’s hallelujah and and Tracy chapman’s fast car are the only decent versions. More niche- pepper’s version of dream it possible (played at a friend’s funeral).

Gary Jules Mad World is a much superior version that Tears for Fears.

Hoosiers cover of Lovestoned to Justin timberlakes.

I like:

• the Erasure version of A Little Respect
• the Marilyn Manson version of Tainted Love
• the Eurythmics version of Sweet Dreams
• the Jeff Buckley version of Hallelujah
• the Sinead O'Connor version of Nothing Compares 2U

And I agree with PP that the new cover version of Fast Car by Tracy Chapman is the worst cover I've ever heard!

Metallica version of Turn the Page is just gorgeous

Although I still LOVE the original, Crooked Fingers did an amazing and very different version of Under Pressure.

On the Glee train. Adam Lambert's (aka Elliott) cover of Marry the Night is sensational.

Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshee's version of Passenger, by Iggy Pop. It's amazing and definitely better than the original.

Ewan Mcgregor's version of 'Your song' by Elton John, in Moulin Rouge film.
