I was in a pub full of male football fans...

When the England women scored yesterday.

I was in the crowded pub at a ground before our local side's game. The roar that went up when the women scored was loud , completely comparable to if the male national squad had taken the lead.

Times are changing. Not long ago I doubt it would even have been on, they certainly wouldn't have been giving it much attention.

We need fair play rules for the WSL. Wages need to come out of gate receipts for WSL games not parasitcally bled as a cross subsidy.

Ditto for the men's game then. Wages covered by gate receipts, sounds fine to me

Woman's international football seems to be popular now but I think the domestic woman's football still has a long way to go to reach interest levels of men's football.

The women's Manchester derby was played at the Etihad last December and was attended by 44k....i'd say interest is growing.

Interest in the game growing definitely. I notice they host showpiece games like that at the clubs main stadium but otherwise they revert back to playing games at the clubs academy ground or at a lower league stadium both with much smaller capacity and still struggle to sell out. More woman need to support the WSL to push up attendances so more games at viable at the clubs main stadium.

Tbf I think it was only played in the main stadium because the PL was suspended due to the world cup.
But yes, regular and sustained support is needed.

Is that where investment for U17 male football should come from too? From gate receipts from their games? Or are you happy for them to be parasites too? Or do you recognise that they need investment to develop the game.

Chelsea season tickets haven't been on open sale for the last 3 seasons because all existing season ticket holders have renewed

My df was staying with us last week. He's an old school Scottish chauvinist and used to make fun of women (lassies) playing football. I was shocked to find him watching the women's games and actually saying positive things. Attitudes are definitely changing.

Gate receipts funding player wages - hahahaha!!!

Do you know anything about football @Luizaa ?

There is an opportunity to do things differently with women's football. The interest is there and will grow as this generation grows up into coaches and supporters and grassroots parents. There is sponsorship there as brands look for the reach without the violence. The growth has been exponential over the past 5 years but that's nothing as to what's to come over the next 20. Ideally it'd be done without the greed and corruption impacting the men's game.

Women's football does not need people like you @Luizaa @BatheInTheLight unless of course you don't want women's football to succeed??
