What’s happened to my Heinz?

I had fish and chips the other night and thought the chip shop had accidentally put vinegar on the chips (I hate it). This morning I’ve had a bacon sandwich and realised that it’s my ketchup. It tastes of vinegar! Why is this so? Can it go off?

Erm, ketchup is made from vinegar?

Needmorelego · 13/08/2023 11:56

I keep mine in the fridge but my mum and mil both don’t and I always think theirs tastes sour.

ScottBakula · 13/08/2023 11:59

Ketchup has a lot of vinegar in it, did you shake the bottle well first.

Timetochangegonzo · 13/08/2023 12:10

Yes yes I know ketchup has vinegar in. I mean it tastes REALLY vinegary at the moment.

I did not shake it but didn’t think you had to shake the squeezy ones.

@Timetochangegonzo yeah it always needs a really good shake.

CurlsLDN · 13/08/2023 12:29

As others have said always shake it and keep it in the fridge (it actually says to refrigerate on the bottle)

maybe if weather has been warm and it’s been out of the fridge it’s turned a bit weird, if so bin it and get a new one for the fridge.

alternatively, your tastes buds might be a bit off due to a cold, covid, pregnancy… does it taste less sweet to anyone else?

Needmorelego · 13/08/2023 12:32

@CurlsLDN I actually thought my newest bottle tasted slightly different the other day - not as thick and strong tasting as normal.
Oh man……they better not have messed with my tommy sauce 😱

CuratedAndRated · 13/08/2023 12:35

Jamie Oliver wanted sugar to be removed from food and recently the science has shown that some of his artificial sweetener replacements ( not sure why anyone thought people wouldn't require sweentness) have been found to be carcinogenic.

I suspect they changed the recipie.

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 13/08/2023 12:36

Was it Heinz? I think their salad cream also tastes more vinegary and sharp too. Probably acidic is a better word than vinegary, but it's not a nice taste anymore.

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 13/08/2023 12:38

oh nvm...you said it in your title, doh!

Timetochangegonzo · 13/08/2023 12:41

It’s always kept in the fridge. No-one else here to taste it at the moment.
