What’s Happening In Your House?

Morning folks - how’s your Sunday shaping up so far? I’m in bed with DH ( made him a cuppa but I don’t drink tea anymore as it gives me palpitations). Thinking about having hash browns & bacon for brekkie. Nothing planned at all. DH will clean out the bunnies later & wants to go cycling. He didn’t make the sausage pasta last night after all so will do it tonight. We watched the Wham documentary last night - really enjoyed it. George Michael was such a talent.

Measuring up our drawing room, measuring existing furniture and browsing sofas online. DH has been generously provided with the mother of all specialist medical lifter chairs, via our health service, and it is enormous, but means he can now stand up from sitting. However it has thrown out the configuration of the room.

I’m rather sad in some ways as our existing sofa was the dwelling place of my beloved and much missed spaniel, I swear the imprint of his bone idle bottom is a slight dent in the leather of the third cushion. Hopefully we will find something smaller which also suits our elderly Boxer. DH assisted by holding her so I could measure her height exactly, her arthritic back legs are a consideration when sofa buying. DH’s concern for the comfort of me and ddog on a sofa he will never sit on is rather endearing.

Hopefully someone will want to take on our hideously heavy, well used sofa and ancient chaise, even if the chaise does need recovering, ridiculous to be attached to furniture but needs must when there is a lot of essential medical equipment to accommodate.

I took DS2 to football training this morning and we got absolutely drenched on the way back to the car. DH did some ironing while we were out. DS1 has been gaming but went up to the shop for me to get some bits for lunch. No plans for this afternoon really, I need to give the kitchen a good clean and we might watch a film later on. It's wet and windy here so not planning to go out. DH is watching cricket.
I'm off work next week so have booked bowling for Tuesday evening which both DC have been wanting to do for ages.

Cleaning up after our garden shed burnt down last night. All contents lost including my lovely and expensive electric bike. Adjacent greenhouse and neighbours fence severely damaged. It's a horrible mess but thankfully no humans or pets hurt. Thank God the fire brigade stopped it before it reached both houses and our oil tank. Lesson learned - do not assume barbecue coals are out even if they don't feel warm Sad

SpanielsMatter · 13/08/2023 15:23

@squashyhat so sorry, that would have been so very scary to see, as you say thank goodness for the fire service and totally dispiriting tidying up today. The soot gets everywhere.

Here’s hoping the cleanup is swift and items replaceable on insurance. One thought though, are they sure it was the coals? Electric bike batteries can also start fires, there have been a few cases in the news recently.

squashyhat · 13/08/2023 15:53

@SpanielsMatter Fortunately battery is detachable and was actually in the house at the time with its charger. DH (who put the barbecue in there) is very shaken up and mortified he has caused our elderly neighbours so much worry but they are being very decent. The fire service were brilliant.

I swam this morning, DH the kids and the kids walked over to meet me after and we got breakfast. Spent ages in TK Maxx and now I’m back cooking a roast while they watch tv and dh does his hobby. It’s a lazy roast as no potatoes so I’m reading as well.

usually we visit MIL so I relish these Sundays when we don’t have to!

Sprawled on bed with a fibro flare. Dd1 has gone to collect Ds and also my niece who is visiting. I'm hoping they are going to descend on grandma for dinner as I seriously cant be bothered.

I'm laid up with my 9 millionth UTI of the year (ducking peri meno) so to cheer myself up I've just measured the patio and ordered a very bargainous new outdoor sofa set in the JL sale. If I'm going to be in pain and needing to wee all the time I'm going to have somewhere comfortable and tranquil to suffer in.
Shortly going to drop DD and her mate to the cinema then coming home to get into bed and stay there. Humph.
