So, my example is, most of the time, I now get dressed and undressed in the utility room. It started when we moved into this house about 7 years ago. It has a really big utility/laundry room. I had an 18 month Ds and was about 6 months pregnant.
I started organising washing and ironing in there. In one half it has a large belfast sink and two storage cupboards and a laundry rail that is lowered from the ceiling, and plumbing for the washer/drier. Then there is a shower room and then a utility/storage area. It's been really nicely done and I like being there.
I washed and dried clothes in the washing bit, and ironed in the utility bit. Then I started hanging things on hangers in there- daily stuff not my decent stuff. When lockdown came, I lived in leggings, t-shirts, sweatshirts and casual tops. At night, I found myself taking stuff from the laundry basket down there to put a wash on overnight and just stripping off and putting my stuff in with it.
I always had nighties down there because I wear t-shirt nightues and change them every day. So then, I started having a quick shower down there before I got ready for bed.
Then in the mornings, I would get DCs ready, breakfast, take them to school- just in my scruffs really, come home and have a shower in the utility shower and put clean clothes on from the stuff in there. I have a pile of DC clothes, a pile of DH clothes and my pile. Theirs get taken upstairs but I keep some of mine down there now.
It's just become a habit and I do it automatically now. DH wondered if I was avoiding him but I'm really not. I have work stuff on hangers in there and on the days I work, while the DC and him are eating breakfast I have a quick shower and get dressed in there. I've got a make-up bag and a hair dryer in there now.
I love it. At night, I often paint quite late in a studio room I have off it and afterwards I just wander through to the laundry, put a wash on, sort any dry stuff out, strip off, have a shower, put my nightie on and then go up to bed.
I told a friend recently who thought it was odd but I bet I'm not the only one.
I could quite happily live between my studio room and the laundry. I was thinking I could have a little cooker - it already has a fridge - and have it as a little flat when I am older.
Anyone else slipped into odd habits?
