What would you do if you could retrain?

If you had some money to retrain in something that almost guaranteed work what would you do? I have some money saved up that would allow me to do some training (wouldn’t want to spend longer than a year) in order to change career - a bit fed up with my current one and can’t advance any further. Looking for inspiration! I’m currently in research/analysis. Would love to do a PhD in some obscure subject related to my interests but don’t think that would be a good use of funds!

I’d be a paramedic. If it hadn’t been for the kids and mortgage I think I’d have gone for it.

@DustyLee123 oh that would be an interesting job for sure and very worthwhile. Unfortunately I am no good with blood so not for me. I sometimes think I’d like to do something caring involving children but that would take years of training (child psychologist etc)

I'd be a radiologist! But I can't afford another degree (fundimg options are a bit shit), our local hospital doesn't provide training opportunities and our local universities don't offer radiology courses.

So that's gone out the window! And I'm now 37

I'd be an architect. For smaller projects eg home-owners' extensions/ knock down rebuilds

Occupational therapy.

I always wanted to do this, and despite having advanced as far as I can in another professional career, the OT dream remains.

I would be a midwife.

All interesting career options but can’t afford to do another degree. Was thinking about training that can be done in a year and then perhaps more on the job as you go.

Shame that there's a lack of support for us wannabe retrainees! Look at all these NHS roles we'd fill 😔
