Work nightmare!

Hope this is the right place to post..

my workplace is rubbish, high turnover of staff and they don’t care for their staff and it can be quite toxic especially the work chat!

I’ve been there a just over 2 months and I had already planned to leave but was going to look for something first, they also hold you over a barrel as they won’t pay any training money until you have worked 3 months!

anyway I also suffer with a chronic pain condition which is having a major flare, I’ve had to call in sick today and my Dr advised me to stay off sick to recover, my manager is already majorly pissed at me and has put on the work chat that no one is to call in sick as she’s short staffed and is also going on holiday!

I feel sick with anxiety about it, I don’t know what to do, I feel like just ghosting them and never returning but I want to be an adult at the same time and deal with it properly!

it’s so toxic even when I do try and be an adult toxic messages get put on the work chat aimed at me. Instead of actually seeing if I’m ok which I’m not!

if you got this far, thank you, I realise it sounds stupid but I’m not in a good place mentally 😔

I hope you are ok. It’s such a horrible feeling being trapped. I would try and find out legally if they have to pay for training if you leave. Start looking for another job so you can leave as soon as your sentence is over.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying you don't get paid anything at all until you've been there 3 months? How can that be legal? Or have I misunderstood?

Eden1990 · 12/08/2023 01:23

Sorry I didn’t explain it very well, they don’t pay you for the hours you worked whilst training until you have been there for 3 months, it would be approximately £200 I would miss out on.

Find out if it’s legal.

purpleme12 · 12/08/2023 01:26

Yes is this legal and the training

Fishmongers · 12/08/2023 01:48

What sort of thing does she post on group chat?

Ah I see, so it's a proportion they hold back?

To be honest, I know 200 quid is not insignificant, but I'd be tempted to write it off. I clicked on this thread because of the title as I'm also having a work nightmare. I've been at my place for 18 months, I've always hated it, always found it stressful, but I've stayed because I kept thinking it would get better once x had happened or y had happened. Well, I've done everything I can and STILL I hate it, so my advice would be to cut your losses.

Life is too short. Don't waste your time making yourself miserable.

I think it depends how badly you want the money.

Summer2424 · 12/08/2023 03:33

Hi @Eden1990
This workplace sounds awful especially the not paying until training is completed. Your flare up could be because of the stress. For me £200 is alot but my health and wellbeing is more important. I say don't go back, send your manager a text, get better and look for another job xx
