Wilko going bust.

Sad to see a gem of the UK High Street plummeted into administration this week, although not surprising as every time I have been into my local Wilko store over the recent years, shelves have been empty.
I wonder now if Poundland will use this opportunity to asset strip and take over the properties, close their smaller stores and upscale as that is part of their new business model….

No most towns already have a large Poundland(near me anyway) so won't need 2.

I know

I think it's sad, love a mooch round wilkinsons

It is quite sad, a bit like when Woolies went. However, like you, there has been gaps for a long time and things have slowly dwindled. I rarely used their online though (once or twice in lockdown) because they didn't offer any free postage and I would just go elsewhere that did.

I think however they have been pushed aside by the likes of B&M and The Range and then Home Bargains and they perhaps haven't kept up with the competition.

Our local one closed down 3 years ago so I never go in there now as the next local ones are just too far for me to travel so not a shop I will miss but obviously a shame people losing their jobs. I didn’t shop online with them as their delivery was expensive and 90% of stuff out of stock, I did actually look at doing an online shop with them the other day as they had a special £1 delivery day but pretty much everything I wanted was out of stock even very basic things.

Our local one has been diabolical for months.

I think with the likes of bm, home bargains and amazon they have struggled.
Like a pp said they didn't offer free delivery even to store
I needed some work bits always went to wilko, no stock so they advised to order online but it was about 5 day delivery, i couldn't wait.
Amazon had it the next day

Have has this with many items from stationery, pegs, ironing board cover etc

I had a wander in my local earlier. Shelves were fully stocked, even Christmas and Halloween stuff in.
such a shame, I love a wander in Wilkos. One of those places where you go in for a lightbulb and end up spending thirty quid.
