Microsoft word label copy paste nightmare please send help!

I am not great with computers. I do well enough but this is beyond me. So I'm a teacher and I print my maths questions on stickers.

Whenever I design a multiple response question with an a) b) c) style my computer formats this to d) e) f) on the next label and g) h) I) on the next and so forth.

When I copy the label I am hovering on the edge and using the little black arrow that comes up to copy and then pasting in columns from the top. I'm sure there must be a logical fix but for the life of me I cannot find it. Any help gratefully received!

Depending what version of word you have, can you just right click on the second one and select 'start new list'? Think that's word 365?

If you want a nice layout, I'd use PowerPoint rather than word because it is much more consistent on layouts.

There's a few ways of getting round it - one is to click into numbering and stipulate they start from a), ensuring there is always a hard return between each question.

You could create a section (but not page) break between each question.

Or you could just go to the first answer for each label, backspace and enter a).

It's one of those contextual things that rarely makes sense.

If you right click on the d), e), f) does it give you the option to 'restart numbering'?

@FatAgainItsLettuceTime oh my god this has done it!! I have wasted countless hours on this over the past few years and you got it!
Thank you so much x

Thank you also to everyone else. Your tips didn't work for me but I'm grateful for the time you gave. The layout for the labels is one k was given and I wouldn't have a clue how to recreate it elsewhere. And apparently I don't have fancy office because the options suggested weren't available

So pleased you got an option that worked!

Bloody hell, is it that easy? I feel your pain on this one OP. I'll remember this.

I'm a bloody Technical Consultant in IT too. My (poor) excuse is I work in data matching and modelling and not Word.

The only time I ever cried using a computer was trying to print address labels. Glad you sorted it @pinkberet !

The problem with Word is you get so used to the idea that simple things will be needlessly complicated that you almost stop looking for a simple solution and just assume it will be needlessly complicated.
