How much were your towels?

Bit random, I know, but I'm browsing towels & came across some on Littlewoods that I like the colour of.

They're £62 for 2xface, 2x hand, 2x bath, and 2x bath sheet, which I didn't think was too bad. My dad's giving me Hmm faces though 🤷‍♀️

I've never bought towels in a pack like that, the last bath sheets I bought were 15 euros each.

DeedlessIndeed · 11/08/2023 17:36

If they're good quality that doesn't seem bad!

Not long bought a couple of bath sheets from John Lewis recently, definitely not the highest range, and they were about 30 each.

ThePoshUns · 11/08/2023 17:39

That sounds reasonable. Good towels are worth paying a little more for. I tend to buy in M&S when it's 20% off. They last a good few years.

I just buy separately. We only use bath sheets and hand towels mainly. So no need for smaller bath towels

Yes, it sounds reasonable. All ours come from Asda in the sale but they're still probably nearly that price.

When did your dad last buy towels and how much does he think they should cost?

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 11/08/2023 18:05

Mine are Ikea’s generic. Nothing matches. I prefer thinner ones as they’re easier to wash, dry, store and use. But I see that as just a practical thing, not a ‘house decor’ thing.

lucysmam · 11/08/2023 18:08

@BarbaraofSeville probably before I moved out, at a guess 🤣

They're 650gsm so mid-quality ish.

@Caspianberg I would buy separately but they're heavy to cart home & everyone keeps requesting their own colours. The last ones I bought were a plum ish colour & still leak dye even 5 or so years later, so own colours is a no then they can all go in together.

I’ve just bought some from Sainsburys today. £9 reduced to clear, £18 full price! I think it’s extortionate, £36 for two bath sheets!!! Glad they were 18 for both. They seem ok. Will see how long they last.

SuperiorM · 11/08/2023 18:15

The last expensive towels we bought were from John Lewis, at the same time we bought 2 others from Asda. The Asda ones are wearing better

GigiAnnna · 11/08/2023 18:16

Mine are from Primark, Asda and Dunelm. I can't remember how much they were but they were reasonably cheap. I only buy bath sheets.

dubyalass · 11/08/2023 18:19

Mine are Christy, inherited from my grandma. I needed towels for my new house; she had recently died and they were (and still are) in good nick. I've had them since 2016 but I think they must have been fairly new at the time.

Caspianberg · 11/08/2023 18:19

@lucysmam - I buy all white so everything can be washed together. W buy from king of cotton. Looking now they are £35 each ( but we bought a few year ago and I’m sure with 20% off so a fair bit cheaper - probably £25 per bath sheet size)

Titsywoo · 11/08/2023 18:19

No idea - some are ones I stole from my parents house when they downsized and are about 25 years old, some my MIL brought us for xmas, some are massve beach towels I got in Matalan for about £10 each. It's not something I spend a lot of money on anyway.

fussychica · 11/08/2023 18:21

I buy towels separately. Hand towels to match the bathroom and top quality for a reasonable price, think the last were Dunelm.
Bath sheets, I've got some old beige Primark Hotel quality which are still in great condition and some fabulous white ones from Bargain Bedding which are ex hotel ones. They were very cheap but top quality.
I hate soft velvety towels that don't dry you.

LibertyLily · 11/08/2023 18:21

We've had some of ours at least twelve years but because we've so many, a lot are like new -

DH bought me a selection from Liberty one Christmas (ours were purchased separately but a similar bundle of eight - different colour - now retails at £260!) and I topped them up with loads of plain white Liberty ones on ebay (new, with tags) for considerably less.

We also have some Fresco towels (a Californian brand iirc) that have a Kilim design. These were purchased online from an independent retailer in 2014 and were fairly expensive too. I can't see any for sale in the UK now.

The towels we use in the kitchen are from Homesense/TK Maxx. I bought a few extra ones recently for £3 each.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 11/08/2023 18:28

I normally buy John Lewis, but the last ones I bought were Wilko, and are definitely not John Lewis quality but perfectly ok. I reckon the same number of towels would be about £56 from there and yours sound better quality.

Zipps · 11/08/2023 18:39

Bought ours from Next- 4 extra large bath sheets were £26 each (they're huge) plus 2 bath towels and 8 hand towels.

TinkerbellefromYorkshire · 11/08/2023 18:41

Jysk £12 for a bath sheet.. Best I've ever had.

NotImpressedByYourBragging · 11/08/2023 18:43

That's expensive! Mine were from Asda, bath sheets were about £12 I think, and they're perfectly ok.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 11/08/2023 18:49

Sounds reasonable to me if you like them.
My favourite & longest lasting towels are by Christy & Primark - opposite ends of the price spectrum!

yetanotherchangeofname · 11/08/2023 18:50

Two baths sheets cost £88 last time I bought towels. £62 for a set seems very reasonable.

DaphneDeloresMoreheadRidesOn · 11/08/2023 18:53

Can't remember, they are Jasper Conrad bought at 75% off when Debenhams closed down abd are awaiting the completion of turning the downstairs cloakroom into a shower room which was started 3 years ago next week...

DaphneDeloresMoreheadRidesOn · 11/08/2023 18:54

However the current towels are all 18ys old +

DaphneDeloresMoreheadRidesOn · 11/08/2023 18:55

And I only do white towels and crockery - no matching problems then :)

Derrymum123 · 11/08/2023 18:59

Tesco last week, hand towels £1, bath towels £2 bath sheets £2.75. I bought a trolley full. Happy days.
