Hilarious isn't it.

I thought it would at least take a couple of weeks

LimeCheesecake · 11/08/2023 17:37

I read something that said it would be cheaper to send the 500 immigrants it’s able to house on a 12 month Disney cruise than keep them in this floating horror for a year. Not sure if that’s actually correct.

it does, however, seem a very expensive and ineffectual way to house immigrants while they are processed- if they really wanted to relieve the burden on local areas housing them in hotels, couldn’t they spend the millions they’ve budgeted for this on hiring and training more staff to process applications so those applying don’t have to wait for years ?

The barge wasn't ever intended to be a sensible cost-effective solution to anything. It's a performatively vindictive stunt aimed at mopping up a few more far-right flagshagger votes. It'll probably be quite successful in that regard, legionella notwithstanding.

One of the asylum seekers who was forced onto the thing is suffering from TB. There aren't words for the cruelty and stupidity this government has embraced.

Brilliantly put.

It is a vindictive stunt Greensleeves, you are right.

They reportedly got the results back on Monday, but they still carried on boarding the people.

VesperLind · 11/08/2023 19:23

Didn’t have Legionella on my Bibby Bingo card, but I’m not surprised. As @OhYouBadBadKitten says, they carried on boarding folks after they knew about the infection, and hopefully heads will roll in consequence. Perfect timing for the Sunday papers to go to town on it too.
It’s a bloody disgrace.

Poor people.

God, can you imagine having to be a pawn in this political distopia.

Jonathan Pie calling it the Pippi Longstocking is very funny.
