Hard substance stuck in child's hair

Any ideas on what this could be?

Twice now a big clump of my 5yo daughters hair is stuck together by a really hard, semi transparent, glue-like substance and we are completely lost at what it could be or how to get it out?

It was thoroughly brushed this morning and no access to any chemicals or glues in the house

Does it dissolve in water? If so some kind of syrup she's found? I suspect DD knows more than she's saying about it tbh...

Drench, intensive conditioner, leave for 30 minutes. Tease the hair around it out and repeat

Try a cooking oil of some sort, it will help the substance slide out of her hair. I speak from experience!

Chewing gum?

Baby oil works to take that out.

Baby oil is meant to be very good - something to do with the minerals in it. I've had to use it once to remove those awful foam stickers from the floor and they were the only thing that worked

It's matted, comb it out with conditioner and plait it
