Are there any songs that you don't think are actually bad but they're overrated?

Not songs that you hate. Songs that you think are ok but nothing special.

Mr Brightside comes to mind. I don't understand why it's so popular. It isn't catchy. It's bland imo. It's one of those songs that whenever it's mentioned I can never remember what it sounds like so I have to go listen to it, as I did just 5 minutes ago.

Padam Padam by Kylie. Everyone seems to have been raving about it this year and I think it's very average. I'm a huge Kylie fan, but not this one.

Most of the songs in Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals. Though to the credit of Lord Lloyd Webber, he does not overrate them himself.

Taylor Swift. Bland, banal bubblegum pop.

I quite like Mr Brightside and I speak as someone who was a teenager of the mid noughties who’s probably heard it a million times!

When I saw your thread title though my first thought was Wonderwall.

100% with you here - Kylie is now going into Madonna territory - should've called it a day rather than keep churning stuff out, trying to sound relevant.

Mr Brightside is fantastic live with loads of people singing along, I watched The Killers performance at Glastonbury recently and that song was great. That's the setting it's best suited to.

WallabyWay · 10/08/2023 20:41

It doesn't seem catchy enough for a sing along imo. That's what's always confused me.

Uptown Funk and Shake it off.

I like these songs but in 2015/2016 they were played on Heart Radio every single time I was in the car multiple times a day for months on end and I got sick of them.

Everything by the Beatles. In fact the Beatles themselves. And jeez do NOT get me started on Paul McCartney. He should do everyone a favour and never pick up a microphone again.

Pretty much anything by Rita Ora

Mr Bluesky by ELO. ELO have sooooo many fantastic songs but this is the only one the radio plays.
