Providing ID for a reference?

I have provided a reference for our ex nanny for her new job. I understand a job working with vulnerable children.

They have asked me for ID. Is this typical?

For personal reasons, I'm not comfortable doing so.

I work in sch's and have an enhanced DBS. All my references have been directly from previous schools and / or previous commercial employers ( headed paper etc). ID confirms who you are and is part of due diligence on new employers behalf as, you were not a commercial employer. The same checks and due diligence should/would have been carried out at the time she became your nanny and, had access to your children. It is all connected with safeguarding to protect the vulnerable. It is just to verify you are who you say you are and you would expect this basic level of verification for anyone working directly with your children, now or in the future.
