Manchester vs London Stanstead airport

Does anyone know what the drive is like to Stanstead, we’re about 30 mins from Manchester. Flights are a lot cheaper from Stanstead with better dates… 4 adults travelling down by car, no DC in tow.

M6 then A14 then M11 then A120. A14 a lot better than it used to be it's just a bit of a long way. Obviously factor in cost of parking it can be eye-watering.

And it's Stansted...lol...but don't worry half the time even the road signs round here spell it wrong!

Enjoy your hols

It is a long drive home afterwards plus would you need a hotel too?
I always prefer to go from closest airport possible!

I agree. I live about 15 mins from Stansted and there's no way I'd choose to go from Manchester! It's the drive home afterwards that would be the killer. No point in overnight hotels as that would negate the flight savings.

It depends on the time of day/week really. Flying from manchester on say a monday late morning can be quite civilized, but if on a weekend then it’s a ghastly place.

Stansted has always been a better experience for me at any time or day.

The cost and pain of an extra 3 hour drive two ways is considerable though.
If it was me I’d go for Manchester mid-week and Stansted with overnight hotels at weekends.

It really depends on where you are going to, how different the prices are.

We live in Cheshire, but flew long haul from Heathrow in Feb, 3 adults. The extra cost of hotel/car park deal was tiny compared to the cheaper flights from Heathrow compared to Manchester. Yes we had to drive back after holiday, a Friday evening, but we are used to driving long distances, it didn’t faze us and we made a substantial saving (like 3 figures!).

I would do it if the dates work.

That should say 4 figure savings, it was £100s each.
