Morris, Cuthbert or Colin?

Who is the best caterpillar?

DS5 has requested a caterpillar cake for his party, should we go classic Colin or are the pretenders worth a shot?

Sexist! What about Connie?

(Yes, obviously female caterpillars are pink and are therefore unsuitable for boys...)

Moonshine5 · 09/08/2023 15:08

Colin fan here.

Moonshine5 · 09/08/2023 15:08

For girl or boy

TheMousePipes · 09/08/2023 15:08

We sent Connie in a residential with my y8 dd ( everyone had to take an evening cake/snack to share) - Connie won ‘best cake - student vote’ by a country mile!

whoruntheworldgirls · 09/08/2023 15:10

Love a Connie. Cuthbert is good, sent one to holiday club for my daughters birthday and all the kids loved it

LylaLee · 09/08/2023 15:10

>which cake

Thank god. I thought you were naming your DC.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 09/08/2023 15:51

Cuthbert
I thought you were talking baby names for a second!

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 09/08/2023 16:00

Who’s is Morris!?

I love Colin tbh

x2boys · 09/08/2023 16:07

I think there's a clarance, too?

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 09/08/2023 16:09

No idea of it's name but I always enjoyed the Asda one.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 09/08/2023 16:25

I didn't see the topic at first. I was really hoping these were potential baby names.

Disappointed.

And now fancying cake.

massistar · 09/08/2023 16:44

Also saw this and thought it was a baby name thread. Grin

Same! Grin I was hoping it was a dog-naming thread.

Tarkan · 09/08/2023 16:49

We spent a year testing a few for family birthdays.

Colin was the winner but Morris and Clyde were close. Curly was the least favourite.

So did I and thought Colin must be making a comeback. I already know a little Morris and I’m sure there must be a few Cuthberts around. Feeling quite relieved that it’s a cake thread 😅

ThreeRingCircus · 09/08/2023 16:56

Having taste tested all of them, Colin is definitely the best.

Nellieinthebarn · 09/08/2023 16:58

Colin is delicious and reliable, but Charlie the Co-op one is also very nice.

Nellieinthebarn · 09/08/2023 16:59

I also thought I hope to God this is 'what shall I name the cat/dog' and not a child.

DahliaMacNamara · 09/08/2023 17:01

I was way too quick to catch on, considering my youngest is 20.

It's Colin for me, but I wouldn't say no to any of the others.

DudeItsPrawns · 09/08/2023 17:20

The Aldi one is shit.
The Asda one is OK.
I still dream about the massive coronation M&S one and think they should make them all the time.

Lifeinlists · 09/08/2023 17:22

Colin. The mini ones are yum too.

SpottyBumPony · 09/08/2023 18:45

Sounds like Colin is the safest choice. Where is Connie from? Child is a boy but we don't mind pink and sparkles.

Morris is apparently Morrisons' contender.

As my Grandad was called Herbert I think I'd go for that when naming a child/dog/cat/hamster over Cuthbert

BarelyLiterate · 09/08/2023 18:49

Colin. It’s not even close. It’s the chocolate hit which sets him apart. The others are too sweet, & not chocolatey enough for me.

Moonshine5 · 10/08/2023 07:05

@BarelyLiterate ⬆️ yes this

LubaLuca · 10/08/2023 07:13

Having eaten all 3 recently, I can confirm rankings.

  1. Colin
  2. Morris
  3. Cuthbert

Cuthbert is almost unpleasant, like the cheapest, sweetest cake imaginable. No discernible flavour.

Morris is okay, like a basic swiss roll inside and the chocolate coating is weirdly waxy. It has a chocolate flavour though.

Colin is the most chocolatey and all parts of it have flavour. There is some grittiness in it (maybe in the buttercream) which is a shame, but it's better than the others by a country mile.
