Next week is Summer Christmas here - I'm so excited

We do Summer Christmas in our house.

We're in the UK so its not a weather thing like in the Southern Hemisphere.

We just bloody love Christmas.

So we have a giant Christmas at Christmas, then a big Easter, then a Summer Christmas in mid-August.

We don't have a tree for Summer Christmas but we fill the house with lovely fresh flowers instead.
We have a fortnight off work.
We have presents.
We have stockings.
We have booze.
We have food.
We have themed clothes.
We have a big roast.

We basically do a mini, more summery version of everything we do at actual Christmas, and Easter.

I'm so bloody excited. Only two and a half days left at work.

Wow I've never heard of this

How did this tradition start?

VeridicalVagabond · 09/08/2023 13:19

That sounds lovely, can I come?

I'm a huge Christmas lover too, might see if I can convince husband we also need to adopt this tradition. Once a year doesn't seem enough.

I hope you have a lovely Summer Christmas! Summas? Christmer?

GregSerranosLeftBollock · 09/08/2023 13:20

It just kind of evolved.

We don't go away on holiday. So we started to make our summer time off special - big meal, a couple of presents for each other etc. And it just kind of spiraled.

We both love Christmas so decided - why wouldn't you have three of them a year? 😅

It's not enough - we have three a year!

We've just stuck with "Summer Christmas". Other names haven't really caught on.

I’m having a family BBQ for my DD’s Birthday, like every year.
Not sure calling it Christmas would enhance the event.

Labtastic · 09/08/2023 13:21

Wow I can't think of anything worse - all the Christmas admin twice in one year 🤣

But how lovely if you enjoy it. Have fun

The trick is to just dispense with all the bullshit and admin!

Summer Christmas doesn't involve that much admin because no-one else 'does' it so there are no wider expectations - no work drinks, no visiting family, no cards etc.

Are you the family from the very ad?

BarbaraofSeville · 09/08/2023 13:29

Now that sounds like a staycation to have and a much better use of the money than spending several £k on a holiday that it sounds like you're not particularly bothered about.

I haven't seen it! Are they a Summer Christmas family too?

I'd really like to go away on holiday but we can't because of the dog.

We wouldn't go away in school holidays anyway so we'd still do Summer Christmas with our August time off 😎

The way the weather has been you’ve probably got a better chance of snow than at actual Christmas. Enjoy!
