Not sure it matters which order posters answer the question in, it just opens up a discussion no?

Jurassic Park & Jaws 100% agree they are better than the books.

My sisters keeper and Captain Corelli’s Mandolin the most terrible adaptations, it’s like they didn’t even read the book.

The only time I have read a book that was worse than the film was 'This Island Earth'. I loved the 1955 film, but the 1952 novel it is based on is dire beyond words.

Posted to soon! Other than that I would concur that books are better than the film versions, especially Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

I think the best adaptations are when the film / TV takes the essence of the book and does what film/TV do well not what works well in the book.

So Harry Potter (the first one)the book opens with "Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much".

The film takes that and shows you a row of identical houses, with identical gardens and identical cars.

You get the same meaning.

Books are always better than the film, every single time

JustOneMoreBaileys · 18/12/2023 09:43

Anyone who claims the book is always better has never read Jaws Grin

It's creepy, weird and dull in equal measures. And there isn't enough shark! In fact, it's not really about the bloody shark at all. It's all property fraud and Mrs Brody and Matt Hooper rubbing each other under tables.

Actually the blind side is possibly a contender. The book is about the development of the game and Michael Orr's story is just in there.

Deleted as apparently I said the exact same thing earlier in the thread and forgot Blush
