Some people say 'Nike' and other's say 'Nikee'.

😁

Sorry OP, no idea and I'm half Irish.

barbieseyebrows · 08/08/2023 18:44

Neither of us are making much progress

The first one is spelt Nike and the second is spelt Niké

LunaNorth · 08/08/2023 18:47

You’d sprain your lips trying.

MicrowaveRice · 08/08/2023 18:53

I would say DHOOLthucka MacFyunbar, though trying to spell it phonetically makes it look as confusing as the original 😁

MeinKraft · 08/08/2023 18:56

Guessing something like Dulta Ma-Finbar

Gold star response! 😆

I think the BBC cat maybe walked over the keyboard of whoever was typing the name in?

Inkypot · 08/08/2023 18:59

I think it would be... and bear with me while I try and think how to type this the way I'm hearing it.. Dooltacha (as in the soft ch in loch or Auchterarder) McFionbar (like Fiona with bar and a Mc at the start)

I've never heard the name before

I don't dislike the sound of it (if that's how my little brain is reading/hearing it)

But my goodness.. imagine being 4 and learning to spell your name. You'd be most unimpressed with your parents Grin

I love the fact you've hidden their face to preserve their anonymity 🤣 The name may be a giveaway lol

Very rude.
It's someone's name.

TheFoxCatcher · 08/08/2023 19:06

The surname is McFinbar.

I don’t know that first name, but looks like Dool-taha?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/08/2023 19:07

If you were in a rush to get vox pops I bet you'd feel a bit panicked when she started spelling it!

ConfusedGin · 08/08/2023 19:09

Ny-key

(I worked for them)

GiveOverRover · 08/08/2023 19:09

I'm more confused as to why if you aren't fluent in a language, why you expect to be able to read it? When most people around the world are naming their children they don't do it so someone in a front room in Staines likes the sound of it and can prounouce it.

TwirlBar · 08/08/2023 19:10

Guessing as an Irish person with not brilliant Irish

Doo-al-tacha Ma-ginn-var

The ch is like in Scottish loch

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/08/2023 19:10

You'd wish you'd picked an Aoife or Brendan to talk to.

TwirlBar · 08/08/2023 19:12

Fh is silent in irish
Bh is a v sound

TwirlBar · 08/08/2023 19:15

I don't think this thread is in great taste tbh op
This is a real person you're talking about

gooseduckchicken · 08/08/2023 19:16

@barbieseyebrows why is this funny?
