Am I the only one looking my age?

I seem to be surrounded by women at work, friends, on the tv etc who look far younger than their age and itโ€™s wrecking my head ๐Ÿ˜‚. I am someone who nobody is surprised when I say Iโ€™m 48, thereโ€™s no โ€œomg I thought you were in your 30s!โ€, people just nod (probably thinking โ€˜I thought she was in her 50sโ€™). I have wrinkles around my eyes and a wrinkly neck and also baggy eyelids - I am paining a sexy picture here I know.

i donโ€™t obsess about this but it just seems a bit unfair when so many women around me look so youthful and fabulous. I am no frump and have a young mindset, I just donโ€™t have the neck to match!! Anyone relate, or can tell me where to find this mystical youth elixir that everyone else is bloody drinking?!

For my part, I eat healthily for the most part and I exercise and am a healthy weight. So if anything is getting me it is definitely stress and alcohol. Have had a lot of stress in the last couple of years and guess what alleviates this stress on a short term basis? Wine.

Tretinoin is great.

Shameless referal code for Dermatica who I've been with for 3/4 years (you get money off and so do I)

Try personalised skincare for just ยฃ2.90, plus ยฃ10 off your next month.

Head to www.dermatica.co.uk and checkout with code Y2K0NE

You are not alone OP, nobody looks shocked when I tell them my age either (the bastards )

Same! You're not alone OP

SilverGlitterBaubles · 09/08/2023 13:16

Really interested in this Tretonin thing, lots of mentions about it here on MN but never heard of it previously.

usernother · 09/08/2023 13:18

I'm older now and I look my age but I no longer care. It doesn't matter a jot.

Ohmylordnotagain · 09/08/2023 13:19

Nobody looks shocked at my age 57 so if desperate i pull out the 40 year old daughter they all say you dont look old enough ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ sometimes i just take it sometimes i tell them i was just 17 when i had her ๐Ÿ˜Šso im not really old enough.

Whichwhatnow · 09/08/2023 13:26

I'm 38 OP and definitely look my age. I do find that with the increase in botox/fillers/lash extensions/very heavy makeup it can be hard to guess some people's ages, but also that this works in both directions - I know or have met quite a few women in their 20s who to me look like a 'well preserved' late 30s-40s because they have that 'had work done' look. Obviously there are also those lucky people who are just naturally young looking too!

adriftabroad · 09/08/2023 13:30

There is zero youthful looking about botox.

IMO it is disasterously aging. People who have it just do not think so.

Loulou599 · 09/08/2023 13:31

You can definitely tell when somebody has had botox, filler etc. Even when it's done really well and the person looks nice and glowy it's just easy to spot, so someone who "doesn't look their age" always does iyswim

Loulou599 · 09/08/2023 13:34

Is tretinoin just the latest retinol style fad? What's the difference?

TakeMe2Insanity · 09/08/2023 13:39

A lot is down to genetics. My grandmother looked young (didnโ€™t have teeth or like wearing them so that made her look old) but my mum at 80 was always mistaken for 60 or worse still my sister when I was younger. No one thinks Iโ€™m my age. Also added to that is I had my child later so in peopleโ€™s minds 20 years havenโ€™t happened and I havenโ€™t aged!

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 09/08/2023 13:40

I look every second of my age and then some it honestly doesn't bother me.

Window82 · 09/08/2023 13:41

I think most people look their age. There was an attractive lady in a restaurant I was in yesterday and she had a combo of wrinkled like her neck and chin area but then high eyebrows, no laughter lines, smooth forehead etc so obviously Botox - but I did wonder who was creating this very unbalanced look for her.

Augustus40 · 09/08/2023 13:55

I am 60 in November but do not look it at all. No more than early fifties max.

I think most people look their age if you look properly, but some people are certainly more wrinkly than others, which does make it more obvious at first glance.

I guess you either say fuck it and be a cool lady with lines, or investigate what you can do about it.

I love this! I aspire to be a cool lady with lines ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's similar but tretinoin is considerably stronger than retinol as it is the active form of Vitamin A and hence can get to work as soon as it is applied to the skin. Retinol and other weaker retinoids, on the other hand, require further reaction steps by your skin to activate them to work. This is what makes Tretinoin so effective and strong but also more irritating than retinol. In addition to wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, Tretinoin is also used by doctors to treat a wider set of skin conditions like acne, scarring and rosacea.

I have been told I look younger but I wear , concealer and big glasses and as I am short sighted, they actually reduce the appearance of my wrinkles hahaha .

Shizzlestix · 23/01/2024 22:22

Iโ€™m seriously debating Botox. I did a comparison photo on social media today. In the photo from this week, I look like my older brother! The other was 12 years ago so of course I look better facially. I look my age (50s), I have wrinkles โ˜น๏ธ

LizMax · 23/01/2024 22:26

I am 57 and I now have that crinkley skin around my neck line just at the collar bone๐Ÿ˜,so when I don't wear a scarf it tells you how old I am compared to my face Which looks about 47.. maybe ๐Ÿ˜‚

KylieKangaroo · 23/01/2024 22:42

I am late 30s and have got so many lines, my daughter drew a picture of me the other day and I looked like a grandma she put that many lines!

FrangipaniBlue · 23/01/2024 22:45

I started to feel like this when I turned 40, I used to be the youngest looking of my friendship group but suddenly I wasn't.

It took me a while to have the epiphany - they were all having Botox and fillers on the QT!!!
