WWYD? Wedding Band Question

I'm getting married and my engagement ring is one that requires a shaped ring. It also needs resizing and I went to a beautiful independent jewellers today to see if they could help. They can! Hurrah.

Whilst I was there I saw some beautiful wedding band shapes I had not considered before. I didn't request a price but imagine they are on the pricy side. However, I only plan to wear one until I die so surely it is worth it.

Now I know but partner won't mind, but he will not be wearing a wedding band at all (but we are considering a cheap one for the day but not sure what is normal in these circumstances). So would it be ridiculous to spend an obviously much higher price on mine. After all a fair amount has already been spent on my engagement ring or am I just overthinking this all?

No I'd say you're not mad, buy the more expensive ring if you can afford it as a couple. I wouldn't send more money on DH's ring if he's not going to wear it but I'd mentally budget a similar amount for him to have an equivalent amount of money to spend for himself on something non essential should he wish to do so in the future.

Like you say you'll wear the ring every day so it makes sense for it to be something you really love and if you can afford it why not. But ofc if buying the more expensive ring means you can't feed the children or that DH will have to sacrifice an important hobby or something then I'd rethink...

Sorry I'm just seeing this now because I've searched for posts about rings. Can you tell me about these nice wedding band styles you saw? And did you end up buying one?! I'm getting married in July and I too have an engagement ring that will need a shaped band, so all ideas welcome!

Hi and congratulations on your engagement. I got married over ten years ago but my engagement ring is also a shape that required a band styled to fit around it. I don't want to post a pic of my actual wedding band in case it's too outing but it's similar in shape to this. A gentle twist on the band and it sits perfectly over the higher points of my engagement ring.
Mine is from a local small jewellers but I couldn't find any other ones the same shape when I tried to Google it so this will hopefully give an idea of the twist shape!

I know it's an older thread, but who cares?

If you can afford it, get what you want. I did and I'm so glad all these 26+ years later.

That's a really beautiful shape - thank you!

It's not a great picture but you can get an idea of how my wedding ring is shaped to fit around my engagement ring. I had them both made by a local jeweller 16 years ago. Just a reminder to have them revalued yearly for insurance reasons, the value of mine had increased to a level that shocked me when I eventually had them cleaned and valued.

If you like it and can afford it, go for it! My husband also has a cheap occasional use one.

Personally I really didn’t like the rings that went around an engagement ring so one jeweller suggested a great idea - they took the underside “cage” off the bottom half of the jewel/diamond on the engagement ring and then I could choose any flat band to go under it! The band gives extra support to the engagement ring and 12 years on I’ve had no issues with it (I worried it wouldn’t be secure). See if you can do that! Opens up your options and becomes much more affordable!

I thought this was going to be about music for a wedding.
