Anyone else with a Y7 who has hardly grown?

DS1 and I both needed new school shoes, so took DS2 along for a size check.
He started Y7 in size 4s. He's now a mighty 4 5....
He doesn't need new shirts or trousers.

Anyone else with a child hardly growing? He's not exactly tall to begin with (about 1.5m).

My 13 year old has just finished year 8 in the same uniform and shoes that he started year 7 in. I'm not worried yet, they'll all grow at different points for the next few years.

My just going into Yr6 hasn't grown in ages. The second shortest in class, always been slight, literally grows one shoe size per year (only just in size 2)
I'm 5'2 so hardly lofty!

EvenlyDetermined · 08/08/2023 14:24

Mine was like this but shorter (1.35m) and smaller feet (1). He was up to size 8 feet by year 10, height about 160 so not huge but within normal range.

My DD (12) has been in size 4 shoes for absolutely ages.
Her 10yo sister has also just gone into size 4s!
Have actually just bought size 5 trainers today, but they are replacing a nearly worn out pair bought last October (which replaced another pair of worn out size 4 trainers).

Shes definitely growing in height though judging by her leggings!!

My kids feet grow really slowly - when they were younger and did the whole baby ballet/tap thing we got so many pairs of handed down shoes as they had the smallest feet by far. Even now DD1 is only just a size 1 shoe going into Y7 - but she's all legs and one of the taller ones in the class.

DH is very tall (6 foot 7) but doesn't have the big feet you might expect to go with his height though so I think they get it from him.

MiniCooperLover · 08/08/2023 14:31

My DS is 12 (just gone) and he's still a 3.5 in shoes, that made Year7 very difficult. I will get him some new trousers but they weren't very long to start with.

Boys have a big growth spurt in year 9 from my experience - that summer they are go from little boys to men almost!

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 08/08/2023 14:34

My just turned 12yo is 140cm. Size 2.5 feet same as last September, maybe up half a size, not sure. He's wearing some of the same uniform he had when he joined his current school 3 years ago...age 8-9 trousers and they aren't really even too short. His shirts have got a bit short in the arm, that's all. He is small. He's under pediatrician so I will raise it at his next annual review in September.

CatsOnTheChair · 08/08/2023 14:52

OK. He's just got giant friends then! The lad over the road is literally head and shoulders above him.
Good to hear that others are similarly proportioned.

In my exotic boys, the ones that become big and tall in year 7 are usually the shortest by year 13.

*exotic boys?

Experience of boys

Chances are neither of mine are going to end up tall tall.
DH is the tallest in his family at 170. And I'm only a cm taller than him. Quite frankly, if both kids end up taller than both their parents they will be doing well!
Its more the lack of growth rather than the absolute size, I think.

My DD is also a little one - just finished y7 and is now 139cm tall and in size 1.5 shoes. I'm hoping she'll go up at some point, but she's got short legs!

GreyCarpet · 08/08/2023 17:24

My son had a growth spurt in year 10. He barely grew before that! He was 5'3 in year 9. Hes 5'10 now.

He always had a new pair of school shoes at the start of the year but never once grew out of them mid year. We're just quite a small family!

My daughter is 17, 5 foot tall and wears size 13 shoes. There's no hope for her!

GreyCarpet · 08/08/2023 17:29

Just to add, my son is now a size 8 shoe too.

hopeishere · 08/08/2023 17:51

My son is going into Y12 he has had the same blazer since Y8! It only needs replacing because it's so scruffy. It still fits.

VikingsandDragons · 08/08/2023 18:05

DD is just going into year 7. 129cm, size 1 shoe, but in proportion and small all over (25kg). She has gained less than 1cm in the last year in height and no shoe size gain. She's very unhappy she still has to have a car seat and hardly anyiends do. They don't make a blazer small enough for her so we've had to have it altered. She'll catch up or she won't, some people are always going to be smaller and I know growth at this age is often in fits and starts.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 08/08/2023 18:05

My daughter hasn't really grown in three years 👎🏻
She's 9

clipclop5 · 09/08/2023 01:11

Honestly don’t worry about it. DD was tiny compared to her peers in Y7 and continued to be for the next few years, I thought she was just going to be short and that was that. It wasn’t until she was 15 that suddenly she began to grow + develop. She continued to have growth spurts long after her friends had finished growing and is now the same height as some who had always been far taller than her throughout childhood. They all just go at their own rate. Now she’s 19 and a perfectly average 5’6!
