Early period or late ovulation bleed?...

Hi,

Bit of background, I'm 39 and have very (very) heavy periods and my cycle has got shorter over the past few years. Was around 30-35 days in my 20's/early 30's, but then started to be around 25 days. Then a more typical 28 days, but was then settling back to a 25 day cycle.

I have always had ovulation pain, lasting a day or two, sometimes with a few hours of really bad pain and then sometimes some spotting a day or so later. I thought I was ovulating a few days a go, on day 15 or 16, so a little late for me and a couple of days later started spotting, but it's now gone a bit heavier and more brown than the initial bright red. Also have more typical period type cramps, but it still seems too early, as I'm almost certain I was ovulating only a few days a go. I have had a 20 day cycle before, but only once or twice.

A more permanent, even shorter cycle really worries me, as I'm always borderline aneamic, with having such heavy periods.

Is this common at my age? I know peri can last a long time before menopause, so I guess this wouldn't be out the realms of possibility.

Trying not to worry about other more serious reasons, as I suffer really badly with anxiety, but I am a couple of years ovdue for my smear.

Thanks for reading.

I think it's really hard to say. I'm early 40s and I sometimes ovulate as late as day 20, but have also had a 20 day cycle too. Any chance it could be implantation bleeding? I think that would be my first (panicked) thought with bleeding around that time that didn't become an obvious period.

@mindutopia 100% no chance of that.
