Playdate tomorrow... what do I do?

DS is 5 and is going to his friends house tomorrow for a playdate. He's said he's a bit scared of going by himself so he wants me to stay. The mum said it's fine whether I stay or not... But I don't know her all that well, we've chatted maybe 20 minutes at the most?!

How awkward is this going to be? The playdate was supposed to be at softplay and I wouldn't really have felt rude taking my crochet there, but I can't very well park myself on some mums sofa with my crochet!

Do we just sit and make awkward small talk or what?!

I'm sure you can persuade him that you don't need to stay once you drop him off

I’d drop, stay 10 mins, and if he’s happily playing, just tell him you’re going to pop to shops or something. Then get the mum to text you if he’s upset or asks for you.

Just take some biscuits and have a chat! It could be lovely! I have done this many times and it is usually totally fine- you have the kids to talk about. This is the kind of thing you need to do to make new ‘mum friends’ which it seems lots of people on here want, but struggle with.

You could always say you’re going to stay for half an hour and attempt to leave? Then decide when you’re there what suits everyone best.

I definitely wouldn’t taking your crochet though!
